My dear friend Susan made me this countdown calendar. Her grandson came up with the idea based on the fact that I am a teacher. Now I just need to remember to remove a link every morning

Congratulations! I retired a year ago last June after 35 years of teaching Junior High. You will love it!

Yesterday, I had my BIG Retirement party after 22 years of teaching. I was a Computer Media Specialist in an elementary school. I never thought I would be able to retire, but my body told me loud and clear that it was time to do it. Maybe all my aches and pains were just the desire to quilt more.
My last day of work is Oct. 7. I should have had a countdown chain. Great idea.

Congratulations. And, thank you for teaching our children. You and all teachers deserve a standing ovation and a bigger paycheck. God bless.

You will love retirement. No more papers to grade, report cards to prepare, and no more lesson plans when you'd rather be quilting!

The last few years of teaching can be hard! (Ask me how I know.) I'm going to borrow the idea if that's ok. I have a bunch of counting down to do!

Doxiemom, please feel free to use and share this. I am sure my friend would be very pleased to know that someone else thought it was a cute idea.

Works for deployments, too. Congrats on your upcoming position as full time quilter.

I retired in June after 37 years of teaching elementary school. I do still miss the children and the excitement of teaching. Retirement is a big adjustment, but I do have more time to work on quilting projects. You can finally take a vacation during the winter, too. Congratulations and best wishes.

DoxieMom 10-03-2010 04:55 PM

Thank you! We've already used paper chains to count down the last days to Winter break and Summer break--this is a splended extension of the idea!

Now this brought a smile to my face
I head for Harlingen, Texas from COOOOOLD Illinois the beginning of November. I make a chain October 1 to count off the days.
