Crazy Curves Batik - hand quilted

2 Attachment(s)
This quilt was made using a crazy curves pattern with earth tone batiks. I sewed the two pieces of the curve together with a flat seam so I could fringe the curve. I think it adds some extra texture and interest. I made this for a dear friend who will be finishing her teaching degree this summer after raising her family. Such a great accomplishment for her.

I'm a beginner, but have no problem sewing curves. I played around a bit with the drankard's path pattern and in the process, found this video that was really helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlwVGoL4zV0

Beautiful quilt. The way you sewed the curves makes it look easy. I just love the raggy look. Definitely gives it more dimension. Great job

I love it!!! I did one with white and brights, same as you did yours. They turn out wonderful. I love the fray...it adds so much to the quilt. Great job on it!!!

sandyl 04-14-2012 04:03 PM

I just love circles. Did you use the Accu Cut drunkards path die to cut this out? It's really gorgeous.

carolaug 04-14-2012 04:10 PM

Love it...there is also a way to do this with no curves. Just put the circle material on top of the square - you can than do raw edge or applique. They cut it in half both ways. Then mix and match and sew. So easy. I made one for my brother and love it. I did raw edge but used 606 spray and frey check on the edges. Came out awesome.

I am so a beginner quilter (yes, I've quilted for years -- I just don't advance very far) but I've always found curves really easy to do. If you just pin the devil out of them & then go slow, they go together quite nicely. I actually find them fun to do. And if my work ended up looking even half as fabulous as this beauty, I'd be "curving" 24/7. Thanks for showing this little glowing gem to us! I know your friend will love, love, love it!

wonderful quilt! Beautiful colors too!

SandScraps 04-16-2012 03:10 AM

It is very beautiful. I love the texture. I bet you can now sew curves while blindfolded with one hand tied behind your back!

anndr 04-16-2012 03:33 AM

This is beautiful. I love to hand quilt. Most all of my quilts are hand pieced and hand quilted. Some of the machine quilting just takes away from the designs of the quilt fabric. I have seen some quilts that you couldn't even see the pieces of the quilt. Personally, I prefer hand quilted any day. Beautiful job! ~~Ann~~

sparkys_mom 04-16-2012 05:01 AM

Absolutely beautiful. I love the colors and the fringed edges. Lucky friend!

mbake 04-16-2012 05:11 AM

Wow! That is awesome! The fringed curves are really special....
