Dear Jane - Boy did I Mess one up!

For those who have been so complimentary of my piecing, here's an "O crud!" Even with paper piecing here's the outcome. And the re-make is off in the center, but I'll live with it! Pressing seams open really helped.
First is F1 which turned out fine and then F2 :( BTW on the F1 I trimmed off the seam allowance on obe side of the center octagon prior to appliqueing it! But with a little fray check along the raw edge it appliqued just fine! Phew!

Thank you, thank you, thank you - for showing your boo-boo so I know it's not just me that messes up. Paper piecing is really accurate while you're on the paper, but when you start to join those pieces of paper - that's another story!

nice blocks...

Dear Jane's scare me! But, one day I will get up the courage to do one. Thanks for showing that I'm not the only quilter that can have some O Crud pieces. Please post a picture when you've finished your Dear Jane.

So true! Those pieces of paper never line up just right.

I applaud your blocks! In my opinion Dear Jane should really be named...OMG Jane!

When you finish quilting the remake block add a few buttons to the centers of the blocks randomly through out the quilt. Or applique a circle in the center if it bothers you. It will not be so noticable when all the squares are together.Have fun and enjoy the process. I have a baby Jane! Did not make the full Dear Jane. I may sometime in the future. I may design my own. Thanks all! I've always had super good luck with my paper piecing where I sew beside a fold of the paper and not through it - the "Thimbleberries" freezer paper method which is why this was a shock!
Dear Jane is fun but don't get smug!!

DebbieB, to overcome your fear try just one block, enlarge it if you wish! Tartan, good name!
crafterrn1 - and every one, thank you for looking. Check in again in 3 or 4 years and maybe it'll be finished (and I'll be sad!)

Anybody who's missed some and want to see more, go to my photobucket site at the bottom of my posts. Enjoy the day all!

It will be so gorgeous!

You know what..I'd still use them in the quilt. No one would notice unless they were an expert on the particular DJ block and had a magnifying glass. ...or were the quilt police!

Kitsie 08-18-2012 07:46 AM

The remake will be used, but not the first attempt!
