I started this quilt in november 2011 and i am now fixing to put the borders on there will be 5 borders in graduating widths from 2.5 to 6.5. picture one is the original planned quilt (to be a suprise for Christmas 11) then I got so tired of do it the way I was taught I got some one else to show me another way and have finished the inside. the border will be mitered ( I hope) I have my strips cut and ready to stitch together. this was all a first for me. After I missed the Christmas deadline I finished the squares and told him what I had in mind and told him if he wanted to do another design have at it. the second pic is the design he made. and the third one is of the borders I am using,

I've never seen a Log Cabin done quite like that. Very interesting!!! :)

virtualbernie 05-22-2012 12:47 AM

I really, really, really love the quilt in the first pic!

landers1 05-22-2012 01:53 AM

Very different design, I like it.

QuiltingCrazie 05-22-2012 03:42 AM

What's the design?? Thanks!!!

pamesue 05-22-2012 03:58 AM

that is unique...he will enjoy it.

Tartan 05-22-2012 04:13 AM

It's going to be wonderful! I think I would save the red for the binding for that little pop of colour at the edge. It will be great when finished no matter what you decide to do.

tezell0801 05-22-2012 05:38 AM

Unique design, Love it

the blue pattern is messy looking to me. Love the way the red one is set together.

Love your quilt. You did an amazing job. I love that pattern, have never seen it before.

saf 05-22-2012 09:30 AM

Great quilt. Thanks for sharing

blossom808 05-22-2012 10:24 AM

Its coming out nice.. He will love it. Love your tool fabric. Where did you find it ?

deb8746 05-22-2012 11:14 AM

The fabric is called Mr. Fix-it RJR fabrics Dan morris designer. the design is a Keith (DH) original and the final binding will be the same red as is the first strip of border. Thanks for the comments and the design in the first pic is from a book dated in 1992 called Traditional Quiltworks' 3rd annual Christmas Special .

Quilt Novice 05-22-2012 11:48 AM

I love the fabrics you chose.

Quilter 65 05-22-2012 11:48 AM

Who knew narrow little strips could be sewn together to make so many interesting quilts? The first one really catches my eye.

Cybrarian 05-22-2012 12:51 PM

I need to get that fabric for my DH. He was a building trades teacher before admin so he can do it all especially carpentry. Your husband's original design reminds me of wood grain patterns or marble. Great quilt!!! You did a good job!

Jingle 05-22-2012 01:57 PM

Beautiful, I really like the red one. Log cabins are very work intensive. I am making one out of scraps, will be glad to get it done.

lollygagging 05-22-2012 05:43 PM

Well, he sure picked a unique pattern for the log cabin block! I like your border ideas and I'm sure he'll love the finished quilt. Be sure to share the completed project with us. Thanks for sharing.

debcavan 05-23-2012 04:01 AM

I love that you let him design a setting. And the fabric, how perfect.

homecaregiver 05-23-2012 04:09 AM

I love the way your DH made the design his own - it has a lot of movement and spunk. I'm sure he will love it and you will always remember how it was a collaboration between the two of you, a great symbol of your partnership!

grandme26 05-23-2012 07:26 AM

Love them both.

EllenwoodGa 05-23-2012 08:34 AM

anniesews 05-23-2012 11:01 AM

Your log cabin is most interesting made like that. Very attractive.

MimiBug123 05-23-2012 11:40 AM

Interesting placement of the blocks. There are so many ways to arrange log cabins.

kristakz 05-23-2012 11:41 AM

I love the design your DH came up with. And your border plan looks great. I'm sure he'll love the quilt.

Greenheron 05-23-2012 05:10 PM

Your husband could think outside the 'block' and design an original and unique top. I love it. (I love the Christmas pattern, too.)

Heather Hayllar 05-24-2012 02:21 AM

So very different! Looks like abstract pics of Italy repeated :)

Pam H 05-24-2012 08:18 PM

I don't know if anyone mentioned this to you but be sure to sew all of your borders together before you attach it to the quilt and then do the miter. Maybe you already know this.

mighty 05-28-2012 06:39 AM

Beautiful work!!!!

Jammin' Jane 06-01-2012 05:12 PM
