Ok, I tried it. It's not bad. Was pretty easy, but I thought I had enough blocks to make this, but had to go thru my entire stash to find coordinating colors. That was the hard part. I don't have many pastels, but I made do.
It's not sewn, just layed the blocks out

If you see any blocks that should be moved, let me know.

Izy 09-02-2008 12:30 AM

Looking good Terri :D

Hardest part, making sure you don't end up with two fabrics or colours together....I spent ages going over and over, I stuck a piece of flannel on the wall with blue tack so I could position - reposition...stand back....start again, ooopps it fell off, now which way up did it go, like a giant jigsaw puzzle lol!!

Izy 09-02-2008 12:31 AM

I never thought about cutting them all up first....makes it even scrappier looking - clever girl!!

tlrnhi 09-02-2008 12:44 AM

I can't tack anything to my walls, they are cement. :(
Why wouldn't you cut it first? If ya didn't, then you'd just have the 9 patch block. This way, I have it all cut so I can see where everything would go.

***edit***
Sewing it together now. Top should be done soon, I hope!

Izy 09-02-2008 02:03 AM

Terri we have cement walls to in Spain....I just used sticky stuff, white gunk that sticks to the surface, a big glob of it then stuck pins thru the flannel into the gunk!!

Looking forward to seeing it finished off!!

Edit... forgot to mention I hung the flannel over a picture first so that takes most of the weight!!

tlrnhi 09-02-2008 02:11 AM

I see! Well, I don't have any wall space in my room. My book case takes the only wall that it would fit on. I don't have ANY pictures up on the walls :(
I have pain in the arse landlords who said that in order for me to put pictures on the walls, I have to hire this lady who will do it for me. NOT!! So, instead of arguing with the landlords, we just don't have any up. I do have framed pictures in the house on bookcases and such, so it's not a pictureless house. I just can't have my fine art up :(

That is so ridiculous...what do they think you are gonna use, a pneumatic drill for digging holes in the road....

Ok, I have the top done. I do have a couple seams that didn't match up. Don't know why, but they could have been blocks that I really wasn't going to use and got mixed up when a certain little girl kitten wanted to help. It's ok, can't really notice.

I'll probably tie this one

actual color of border

Turned out nice Terri.

No clue.....I just pay my rent and let them be.
Had I known they were as anal as they are, I wouldn't have rented from them. Word to the wise....DO NOT RENT OVER THE INTERNET WHETHER YOU HAVE A REALTOR OR NOT!!

tlrnhi 09-02-2008 03:34 AM

Thanks Renee

tarib 09-02-2008 03:52 AM

very pretty. The border really sets it off.

Marcia 09-02-2008 04:06 AM

Terri-looks like you have been having fun! (Next thing you know we will have a whole thread of everyone's disappearing nine patch-it seems to be really catching on. :) ) It must go together really quickly. Fun quilt!!!

Izy 09-02-2008 04:13 AM

My old Landlord in our last house was the same way. I had to buy these peel & stick hooks to hang pics. I bought them at Walmart.

Ok let me get this straight. You make a nine patch... And then cut it in four? That part I get lost on. Maybe I can find a picture step by step tutorial... I sure like yours and if its scrappy.... its right up my alley :D

It does go together really fast, sort of. Just sewing all those blocks together was getting tedious!
I think I'm going to try a 2 color one. That way, I can strip it. :)

I'm not even going to get those, Bev. Don't want to mar their walls that need repainting. Not giving them ANY excuse to not give us back the entire security deposit. AND...the best thing? They HAVE to give it back within 3 days of us moving out. These people are BROKE, BROKE, BROKE! lol And, once I get their check, I'm going STRAIGHT to THEIR bank to cash it. Mean, huh? lol

Yes, Bev. Make a 9 patch. Square the block, then cut thru the center of it, to make 4 blocks. Then just arrange and sew. Yes, you can make it scrappy!

Well, it now has the Cat Seal of Approval!

Big boy Kit-Kit aka Kuhio thinks it's great!

Real dumb on this punkin..... sorry. Ok I lay down my 9 patch. Do I make a cut like a cross? Staight up & down then sideways? I imagine, I'll have to measure to see where the center is.......?? Also what size squares?

Chele 09-02-2008 04:55 AM

Looking great! I love the scrappiness!

Oh Chele.... THANK YOU sweetie. I think I got the idea now...

tlrnhi 09-02-2008 05:17 AM

Thanks all.

There ya go Bev. I too, was a bit uncertain about the block. Then I just did a little search on it.
So, where's yours? ;)

Funny. I got to do my skull quilt first, but I really want to try this.

Kit...he's handsome. He doesn't like to be called pretty. lol

Harmony 09-02-2008 06:19 AM

Of course he doesn't. He's a very manly cat, and he has his pride, even though he does spend his time laying around on soft quilts!

He doesn't lay around. He's holding the furniture down. You DO know about gravity, right? If they don't lay on the furniture, gravity will take over and the furniture will float away! lol

gcathie 09-02-2008 06:27 AM

tlrnhi.....now wasn't that fun.....sure alot of ways you can go after you cut your blocks up....love it just love it...Thanks for sharing....Think the Cat agrees.....That manly looking thing....holding the quilt down.....:-)

bj 09-02-2008 06:29 AM

I love the scrappiness of your quilt! And the soft colors. Looks like someone has already claimed it for his own :)

Quilting Aggi 09-02-2008 07:00 AM

looking great Terri!!

Shadow Dancer 09-02-2008 07:10 AM

Your quilt is beautiful! I want that cat!! lol :) :)

tlrnhi 09-02-2008 07:22 AM

Thanks all.
It is sort of pretty. It's still growing on me. :)

Shadow...sorry, you can't have him.
You can come here and snuggle with him. He does this great trick. He'll lay down on the couch with you and all of a sudden...POOF! You are asleep! :)
Plus, Shadow....you'd hurt yourself trying to pick him up. He weighs 25 pounds. He's big boned.

Belinda 09-04-2008 06:57 AM

Looks GREAT!!!

Janeen 09-04-2008 07:02 AM

I really like that pattern and want to do one as soon as I get a gazillion other projects done.... :D

johnette 09-04-2008 03:44 PM

What a coincidence, I am making a disappearing 9 patch too. I fell in love with this block. Will post pics this weekend. Yours is beautiful Terri.

You can't go wrong there. If kitty approves, it's all good.

It's very pretty. I love the fabrics you used.

auntluc 09-04-2008 05:55 PM

Very nice...you couldn't have picked a better color for the border. That green really brings everything together. Good job.

bluebird 09-04-2008 06:06 PM

Beautiful work and colors. Also just finished a disappearing 9 patch top today. Making it for a sweet gal that supplied me with lots of bugs this summer for a batch of wild turkeys. Found some cute "bug" material, the quilt is throw size and will send it to her. SHH, don't tell her, it's a surprize! :-D Love your scrappy ones but this one is simpler. Will post picture when finished.
