Wall hanging, about 25 by 40, but that could change. I'd use the kaleidoscope pattern (rulers) but shrink the block to 5". I've had this idea in my head since I reached the end of Kayak on the Lake... so I'm at least glad to get it out of my head so I can see it better. Although this is just the general plan--it won't look exactly like this.

I've been collecting batiks for it little by little and was surprised to find all I need, or maybe I wasn't so surprised.

I think I'll make two at a time and give one to my sister.

These made the cut. The gold in the center will be used very little.

You always have such good ideas. That will be a knockout.

samroberts01 01-19-2010 07:14 PM

Very nice colors, I love it!

BKinCO 01-19-2010 07:23 PM

It's going to be awesome!

barnbum 01-19-2010 07:24 PM

But then I think I'm not using the kaleidoscope pattern as it's supposed to be used and wonder if I could make the same effect with tiny log cabins. Shrug.

Alaskan lady 01-19-2010 07:29 PM

Love your lay out and colors. Looks to me like leaves are swirling through the pattern your working with. Great idea Karla. I really like this one. The fabrics are so rich.

joeyoz 01-19-2010 07:31 PM

That will be beautiful and the batiks are gorgeous. I have a batik fetish. LOL

amma 01-19-2010 07:36 PM

Ooooo oh so pretty!!!! :D:D:D

SuzyM 01-19-2010 07:45 PM

Jim's Gem 01-19-2010 09:01 PM

Beautiful fabrics and great pattern. It will be beautiful, whatever you decide!!

butterflywing 01-19-2010 09:12 PM

this is so amazing! done this way, it looks so different! it hardly looks like a kaleidoscope. all you see is color changing from value to value. the color becomes all-important. what size will this one be?

can i be your sister?

Esqmommy 01-19-2010 09:13 PM

I trust your design instincts. You are certainly one of the more talented quilters I've seen!

katier825 01-20-2010 02:47 AM

I love it! The colors you chose are great! Can't wait to see it finished!

Crlyn 01-20-2010 02:59 AM

Oh yes, I love your colours! :D

k3n 01-20-2010 03:47 AM

Karla I love it! and the fabrics are making me drool. :-D

Little question, why are you concerned about using the K block if it's to be used?

barnbum 01-20-2010 03:50 AM

Weeeellll...I'm not considering any light to dark work, just a blending of seasons, so it won't look like circles...I feel I'm cheating myself out of a fabulous design the way it's meant to be...but I'm willing to step out of the box.

Hey outside the box is a great place to be! Plus, I for one have faith in your ability for design so I'd say go for it. 'The way it's meant to be' is the way you WANT it to be. Just my two euro cents worth. ;-)

yes, it could be done in log cabins. I love the idea of using log cabins:) (couldn't be because they are a favorite block of mine) no not all LOL

gaigai 01-20-2010 04:16 AM

Like I told Karla, I love it!! Of course, I love everything she does. But if you stand back from your monitor (and are as near-sighted as I am) it looks like a close up of a pinecone in a fir tree. Really neat.

pam1966 01-20-2010 05:10 AM

I love those fabrics! It will be gorgeous!

I took my specs off and you're right! :D

ranger 01-20-2010 06:06 AM

I like your 'outside-the-box' ideas. They turn into beautiful quilts. I really liked the color shading on Kayak on the Lake and look forward to seeing this one.

sandpat 01-20-2010 06:36 AM

I wouldn't worry about using a block "not the way it is supposed to be used"...outside the box...thats the way to go! I love this look!

littlehud 01-20-2010 07:37 AM

That is going to be beautiful. I love your fabrics. Such wonderful choices.

Pineapple Princess 01-20-2010 10:07 AM

Very pretty!

butterflywing 01-20-2010 10:22 AM

i love this block and think it's perfect. it gives you all those separate bits for gradually moving from one color to another.

LovingIzabella 01-20-2010 10:24 AM

I really like this idea and your fabric choices!

This will be beautiful. It could be done using the logcabin block too. Went to your website, your mini's are just adorable!

Sharon - NC 01-21-2010 11:40 AM

Can't wait to see the finished product!

Oklahoma Suzie 01-21-2010 01:18 PM

And is your sister's name Cande? 'Cause she called you "sis" earlier in this thread, I noticed. Or is Cande just trying to be your new sibling! LOL

barnbum 01-21-2010 01:35 PM
