Thank you for all the kind remarks and suggestions for my first try at machine applique (http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-66008-1.htm). This is my next attempt at applique, a lot less ambitious- this time needle turn- it is a free pattern you can find here - scroll down- http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/projects.php/page/4
This project is quick enough to still make for Easter. Laura Esther the Easter Chicken close up of quilting |

That would be marvelous for a farm kid. And there is a breed of chicken that lays colored eggs. Not THAT bright, but colored ones.
Used to have a few of them, lovely little ladies. They are called Araucanas. One laid brighter colored eggs, but most were pastels. Strange little girls, more like Bantams. |
You did a good job and it is so cute.

Absolutely loved it! Followed your link and printed out the pattern. Great site you found it on. Then found some chicken wire material online and ordered it. I love your idea to use it as the background material and think it just makes the quilt. Thanks so much for sharing.

Esther is adorable!

For those who have pm'd me to ask...Just wanted to tell you that I made the basket as a pieced applique then sewed it on to the chicken wire backing -unlike how it is pieced in the original pattern- because I did not want to break up the wire pattern. Also,I random quilted the body of the quilt with clear thread. Same reason.
Thanks for the kind words and interest. Laura |
