Last month the speaker at my quilt guild was Diane Ricks. She is a fabric artist & quilter - she was in several of the Fairfield garment challenges - & she also did a workshop for us on microwave dyeing. It was soooo much fun!!! She had us each bring 2 yards of white cotton fabric, which we cut into whatever sizes we wanted during the class. She brought lots of dyes for us to use, ready to go in liter-sized, pop-top water bottles. Diane showed us lots of different ways to fold, wad, scrunch our fabrics & off we dyed! We did Shiburi style dyeing (otherwise known as tie-dye, but Shiburi sounds classier!), started with both dry fabric & fabric wetted with salt water. She also had a DVD for sale that her daughter made, showing her techniques, so I bought one - I can have a refresher course any time!!
Anyway, here are my pieces..... . |
Beautiful fabric! Your colors are amazing!
I have been wanting to dye some fabric for a king+ sized quilt. I hate to admit that it kinda intimidates me though. |
Wow! These are beautiful. Cool colors and textures. Looks like so much fun.

Those came out fabulous!! I bet you had a lot of fun. I have tea-dyed fabrics, but have never used fabric dyes. It was amazing how different "flavors" of teas dyed the fabric different colors.

Wonderful. I used to microwave dye yarn. It works like a charm.

Awesome! I can't believe the great patterns.
