When my DD was a sophomore in college, her and her roommate decided to attend summer term @ King's College in London. Yikes! Two 21 year old girls traipsing off to Europe. I was a nervous wreck....and needed a challenge to keep my mind occupied. My only comfort was that least they would be staying in the dorm on campus....come to find out they only had classes 3 days a week, and took off travelling the rest of the time!

Since the Fall colors/season is my very favorite, decided to take on the 'tesselating leaves' pattern. It definitely kept my mind busy. I used graph paper and colored pencils for each row...note that a portion of every leaf extends into the block next to it AND into the block below and or above it. I named this quilt "Fall of 55" as I finished it in time for my 55th birthday in October of that year. And by the way, the girls made it home just time with great stories to tell, and wonderful memories.

Very, very beautiful!! I love leaf patterns, both in piecing and quilting. And the fall colors really sing to my soul!!

I know how you feel about the girls traveling...my DD went to Brazil with AWANA the summer she graduated from high school, 15 days there. I was a little nervous, but it turned out great.

The pattern is from the book "Tessellations" by Jackie Robinson It's a neat book, all the patterns tessellate - meaning the edges of each design form the edges of it's neighboring design. The design process was developed by M.C. Escher.

Can't let my DH see this one!! He LOVES oranges and rusty colors and batiks as well. That is truly a beautiful quilt that I will have to add to my 'want to do someday' list.

Beautiful quilt! Those take some brain power.:)

I understand how you feel about our young ones going overseas. It is next to impossible to get ahold of them except by email. My daughter and her friend spent 2 summers ago backpacking thru Europe. They both have been there before so this was their "cathedral" trip. They saw every one they could find. They found internet cafes in the evenings to keep us parents updated. They did have fun but I spent alot of time online watching for emails.!!

The body of the block is 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", then a 2" x 2" alternate color block is sewn on two opposing corners, snowball style. A 2" x 3 1/2" and a 2" x 5" rectangle of leaf color completes the sides. The pattern is from a book called "Tessellations" by Jackie Robininson
