this is how i combined the 1 March Rail Fence block with the 15 March Corn & Beans Pioneer Pick.

i don't hate the way it turned out, but i do like it better when i view it from a galloping horse.

Quilt4u 03-15-2009 06:58 AM

I love it .

tlrnhi 03-15-2009 07:01 AM

beachlady 03-15-2009 07:03 AM

I guess you did start early!!! Love it. Where do you find the time?

patricej 03-15-2009 07:10 AM

i get up waaaaaaaaay early so i can start each day doing something i love before heading off to the salt mines in my office.

also, i'm single, my son is grown and independent and my house is usually a total wreck.

Harmony 03-15-2009 07:14 AM

Izy 03-15-2009 08:26 AM

Well I think it's fantastic Patrice!! So who cares if the house is a wreck if you can turn out quilts like this one

Shemjo 03-15-2009 08:29 AM

I like the way you combined the pieces! I would be very happy with it! Just in case you decide you are THAT unhappy with it! :?
I was wondering how you have time to do all that you do!

Chilly Mac 03-15-2009 08:43 AM

I think it's beautiful! My kind of colours.

QuiltingTurtle 03-15-2009 08:46 AM

I love the way those blocks look together. Great job.

Sharon M 03-15-2009 09:03 AM

view it from a galloping horse ... your funny, Parice. I love it and I am just sitting still admiring it. Wonderful job!

Pam S 03-15-2009 09:06 AM

I love it! The red and black is so stunning! I'm always amazed at how different color combinations can totally change the way a pattern looks.

pittsburgpam 03-15-2009 09:10 AM

That is great!! I love it when I see something unexpected in how classic blocks are put together.

quiltwoman 03-15-2009 10:20 AM

You go girl!

I happen to think it looks fantastic! Keep on ridin'..........it's a keeper.

Butterflyspain 03-15-2009 10:20 AM

Elle

RedGarnet222 03-15-2009 10:38 AM

Wow! How in the world did you remember how each block was to be set! My abstract reasoning skills are nil. You must have been very careful to use a design wall or something. That is very pretty, patrice! I would have gone bonkers making it.

gramadona 03-15-2009 11:18 AM

Galloping horse??!! Patrice you are too funny! It's a great quilt!

littlehud 03-15-2009 12:03 PM

I like it. It is an eye catcher (bright), but I like quilts with color and movement. Love red and black together.

nellie 03-15-2009 12:20 PM

Joan 03-15-2009 12:21 PM

Wow -- that's bright!! Just the thing to use on a bed for summer...I like it!

bj 03-15-2009 12:57 PM

That is awesome...really an eye-catcher!

Blue Bell 03-15-2009 04:01 PM

Patrice,
Your quilt is awesome. You are so creative. I never would have thought to put those two blocks together. You are so inspiring to all of us.

Marcia 03-15-2009 05:22 PM

Patrice--I love your quilt and I am so impressed that 2 months in a row you have used the BOM blocks and made full quilts out of them!!

sewnsewer2 03-15-2009 06:10 PM

I like it! But I was expecting to see a fence to keep critters out of your vegies by the title.

estherblair 03-15-2009 06:13 PM

Pat Gotta love it boy i think you put alot of work in this one

Jim's Gem 03-15-2009 06:13 PM

i'm already bonkers, so that part wasn't a worry. luckily, nothing needed to be rotated for the layout to work. all i had to do was alternate the blocks using a standard checkerboard layout. when i'm assembling a top i sometimes do one row at a time. i attach each new row to the row(s) already done and hang the results from my china cabinet for reference while i do the next. another way i'm able to "remember" is to print the layout from EQ and cross the blocks & rows off as i get them done.

that's too funny. as a matter of fact, i did have something like that in mind: "I Put a Fence Around My Corn & Beans (to Keep the Critters Out, of Course!)" i couldn't figure out how to work critters into a border that didn't clash, so i shortened it.

trust me ... there are plenty of places where things don't line up properly at all. lucky for me all the stripes dominate and distract the eye so the gafarbles don't stand out unless you're up close or looking for them. (whew!)

it's the other way around. the quilts you guys make and the blocks being picked inspire me.

i can't take any credit. the ladies choosing the blocks do the hard part for me. i don't have to struggle with a design. i can just sit back on my tushy and wait. )

k3n 03-16-2009 01:03 AM

Beautiful Patrice, as always, and I haven't even done my one yet!! A question - are you leaving one block spare of each month to put together at the end of of the year - or are you just gonna join all your full quilts together!?

Now I understand the strip piece triangle in the corners of your corn & bean block. Great idea. I am so impressed that you have done both blocks into a quilt for both Feb and March. Anxious to see what you do for April. Your very creative!

reneebobby 03-16-2009 02:16 AM

I think it's very pretty and boy do you work fast.

kathy 03-16-2009 02:53 AM

sshhhhh! I'm following her around today, when she goes to work, or IF she goes to work, there has GOT to be quilting elves at work in her sewing room! I'll get back to ya with more details.

johnette 03-22-2009 07:00 AM

Patrice, I have never seen a post of yours that wasn't awesome. This one looks great.

patricej 03-22-2009 09:54 AM

thanks very much for such a nice compliment. :P

i would have to make the extras in compatible fabrics. i may surprise myself later on, but i'm probably too lazy for that.

i'm trying to picture the blocks so far, in the fabrics i've used, all together in one quilt. we need a barfing emoticon.

RedGarnet222 03-22-2009 11:45 AM

Oh ok I think I got it now patrice. I will try it your way. ps) Waaah ... I don't have the eletric quilt program. I will have to look into that. Enabler! LoL!

TeresaP 03-22-2009 02:10 PM

What a stunningly dramatic quilt!!!

It would probably never occur to me to put something like that together. You obviously have THE TOUCH!!!!
