Yes, it works. I sewed together various length strips until the total length was 1600 inches. I only used 9 fabrics, which wasn't quite enough. I have several places in the quilt where the same fabric is next to each other. But I didn't try to adjust where the strips landed either. I just picked up a strip and sewed.

Seems like a good way to use up those extra inches left after cutting quilts, and sometimes they don't go full WOF, as when border pieces were cut longwise. As long as it is adjusted so none of the seams hit too close to the end cut, it feels like it would work.

Yes! I did this while putting off the obligation quilt I have. It is driving me nuts. I keep messing things up. (Which is why I don't follow patterns to begin with.)
