after seeing Champagnolles "bear in bed" I wanted to make one too.
I got 24 blocks, four each in the colors green, red, yellow, purple, blue and bright yellow. Two of each "girls", two boys.
Is there a "mathematical" way to lay this blocks out and do you think I should go with sashing or without like Champagnolle?

the blue fabric has little stars

how about other fabric for sashing?

That is so cute!!! I like it with the sashing! Is there a free pattern for that quilt? My grandson would love it!!

Grammy o'5 07-28-2010 11:17 AM

I like it with the sashing. Those bears are really cute!

Luv2sew4fun 07-28-2010 11:20 AM

I really like the sashing…. It really showcases each block. Love the pattern…. Where did you get it?

brenda21 07-28-2010 11:21 AM

This is sooo adorable...are the bears appliqued? I like it with the sashing.

BOYD56 07-28-2010 11:27 AM

OH THIS IS SOOO ADORABLE !

sidmona 07-28-2010 11:32 AM

That is so adorable - I like it with the sashing.

ann clare 07-28-2010 11:36 AM

Beautiful blocks. Love the sashing.

granny_59 07-28-2010 11:44 AM

I just had the picture that Champagnolle posted on this board. Search for "bears in bed".
I made different 6"blocks and it is a great way to try out different patterns. I got most of them from quilterscache. The Embroidery design I got from allstitching.com. Originally the bears where carrying boards in their paws and the designer was so nice to remove them for me. Like I figured one gets the impression now that they lay under the blanket.

quilting.addict 07-28-2010 11:47 AM

I like the sashing in blue!! nice work!

icon17 07-28-2010 11:50 AM

The lite fabric really makes them stand out nice.

Annaquilts 07-28-2010 11:54 AM

Unbelievable! How cute is this?

Layout 4x6 or 6x4 or you might make one more bear under his quilt block and have a 5x5 layout?

I am partial to the brown for sashing but the blue is a second. It does make it a "boy" quilt then though. All of them are wonderful options. The wild side of me loves the orange fabric.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-28-2010 11:54 AM

OMG they are soooooooo cute!!
I love the blue for sashing.

ShowMama 07-28-2010 12:00 PM

Too cute! I like them with sashing, and I vote for the brown.

5 x5 is not so good as the blocks are longer than wide. What I am not sure about is how to mix the colors. Always girl/boy/girlbear, but what about the colors of the blocks?

thank you all so much for the feedback. I would have gone without sashing but I think you are right and I also tend to the dark brown one. Its the same "wood" print as the bedframes and could go for the floor.........and then the blue with the stars for the night sky!?

farmerswife 07-28-2010 12:31 PM

That is so cute, I like it with the blue sashing.

granny_59 07-28-2010 12:37 PM

Bedtime over here.........not just for bears
I keep all spread out and will look at it again tomorrow, sometimes that helps

GrammaNancy 07-28-2010 12:43 PM

Those are too!!! cute. Love the blue sashing with them.

Sadiemae 07-28-2010 01:13 PM

The light fabric would be awesome!

AlienQuilter 07-28-2010 01:15 PM

Oh - absolutely adorable!

How about an attic window? Use a dark brown for the horizontal rows, a medium brown for the vertical rows, and a half square triangle (with the dark brown on the bottom left and the medium brown for the top right) for the cornerstones.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about only going to the left instead of the right:

I like the blue and the lightest background print for showing off the blocks most effectively. I'd do the boys in the blue and the girls in the light print. Or if you use the brown or the tan make the sashing wider than what you show in the picture. It does look really nice as well.

stitchinwitch 07-28-2010 02:07 PM

ADORABLE!! Sashing please!

virtualbernie 07-28-2010 02:45 PM

I like the sashing in brown.

Ritzquilts 07-28-2010 03:10 PM

I like the blue sashing...OH and love the quilt

Jim's Gem 07-28-2010 03:35 PM

Adorable!

kwiltkrazy 07-28-2010 03:41 PM

Adorable quilt. I like the brown sashing.

katier825 07-28-2010 03:48 PM

Those are really cute! I like it with the blue sashing. Keep us posted on what you decide!

clem55 07-28-2010 03:52 PM

I love those bears!! And I would vote for the (1)brown or(2) the light one at the bottom. People will be begging yoiu for that pattern!!

KellyK 07-28-2010 04:25 PM

I think I'm the minority vote; I think the yellow/orange dotted fabric would really pull them all together perfectly as almost every block has a bit of yellow on the bears themselves if not their quilts.

It is going to be a fabulous quilt any way you go!

CoriAmD 07-28-2010 04:27 PM

I like the brown sashing for a boy and the "white" for a girl. To me, the sashing makes the block "POP"

Luv2sew4fun 07-28-2010 06:29 PM

Blue or the white.... they fade into the yellow. I LOVE THEM!!!!

walen 07-28-2010 06:32 PM

Love it! Go with you idea; it will be stunning!

I like it both ways but my favorite is with the sashing.

C.Cal Quilt Girl 07-28-2010 07:40 PM

That is Adorable !!! :)

This might not help, Like the checkerboard layout, if boardered, Brown or Light, could get wild and do a Brown/Yellow weave (brown aginst yellow, Yellow aginst brown, cornres 4 patch reverse, Gezzz i hope that made since. no matter what it's Great !! :)

granny_59 07-28-2010 10:20 PM

Good morning and thank you all sooooo much. I will have to work today and tomorrow, but I hope to be able to try some things out tonight. Attic window sounds also very good!

I`d be lost without this board..................but on the other hand, without it I would never have gotten into this in the first place

That is a darling quilt! I like the brown sashing best. It makes the colors pop out at least in my eye it does.

I like Alienquilters idea of an attic window so much that I came up with these finalists. One time with girls, one time with boys.

What do you think?
the horizontal fabric of the two brown versions could also be switched

quilting.addict 07-29-2010 09:53 AM

oh, I like them except the red, which is probably not an accurate color..but I like the concept!

granny_59 07-29-2010 09:57 AM

none of the fabrics are red

the vertical at the left is clearly brown and the one with darker flowers is getting into orange with brown dots in the center of the flowers. Whitch one do you mean?
