I was asked to make a T Shirt quilt for a friend of my hubby. Thought it would be great to get paid for playing, lol but whowheee! Playing with the odd sizes & shapes & designs she gave me was a challenge. She loved it and I'm happy it's done and gone. Now I can go back to playing with my own pretties.

Great job. I love the black and gray to frame it. Haven't tried this yet, but I can see it could be a challenge.

suern3 05-26-2011 02:14 PM

Really nice. Would you mind sharing the name of the black and gray border fabric? I will be making for my DGS soon and love the look of that.

It looks great. You should be proud of it. I'm working on one for someone right now too. It will be the first one I've done for money and the first I've made a T-shirt quilt. I hope mine comes out as well as yours!
I'm at the quilting stage now and hope I can do it justice.

the grey is Moda marbles & the black is a 108" backing that I used the extra for the inter border & binding. It has a tone on tone scroll design, pretty nice. I got them both from Fabric.com within the month so it may still be in stock.

Looks great...you did a good job with the different sized blocks.

How is it quilted? I saw one recently that had no quilting on the t-shirt pieces, just in the sashing and borders but it looked sort of unfinished to me. Did you quilt on the t-shirt pieces? Is that a pain to do?

mimee4 05-27-2011 08:33 AM

Very nice. You did a wonderful job with the placement of the shirt designs.

MrsToastyKoasty 05-27-2011 08:49 AM

I tied it. I just don't trust myself to FMQ something that big yet. Plus I didn't want anything to block the shirts. I used matching embroidery floss & tied every 6"~ Warm & White batting said to go up to 10" so it should be safe. Also I put fray check on the floss as well as on the holes the needle made. A few of these shirts were old ('87!) so I wanted to be extra careful. I am a hand quilter so this wasn't my style but the customer was happy. She didn't appreciate/know the difference of tying/machine quilting/hand quilting. LOL she just wanted 'something' done with the shirts!

Tweety2911 05-27-2011 03:04 PM

Well done!
