Hi
I finished the quilt for my new granddaughter by marriage in November, welcoming her to our family. She wanted one that was similar to the one I made my other granddaughter a couple of years ago, including the satin binding in a package. Got to stitching the end and beginning of binding together, cut, 'snapped' and ... horrors... the cut raw edge was on the outside instead of hidden in the seam. Shoot, I've never done that before! My solution was to use a decorative stitch to cover the raw edges, front and back but it created a very visible 'triangle'. I realize that Kalie won't know that it isn't supposed to look like that but boy do I feel dumb. Now I'm wondering if I should use a pigma pen to write her name in the 'triangle' but afraid it might bleed/spread on the satin. I'll have to try it out on a left over piece of satin. warm quilt hugs, sue in CA quilt for Kalie Mistake on binding |
You covered it well! Beautiful job. How about an applique of her name instead or risking the pen? Or a decorative stitch?

What a cute quilt! I'm sure she will love it. If the pigma pen won't work, perhaps you can embroider her initials in it, or something like that.

why not use the same decorative stitch and make a few other triangles in the satin? oddly spaced, maybe, and turn the "mistake" into a design element.
|
I think I'd leave it as it is...don't do anything else to it.
I think it adds "interest" and if you don't say anything about how/why it is there, no one will even know that it is "isn't" supposed to be there. That's my 2 cents worth anyway... |
It's beautiful! She will love it and never notice. IF she does, tell her it's like a "birth mark" to make her special quilt unique. ;)

very cute! and a great fix!!!
if you use a pigma pen it shouldn't bleed on the fabric. |
that is an awesome quilt

Oh, that 'birthmark' comment made me almost spit out my coffee! Thanks for the chuckle.
Hmmmm, maybe adding some more triangles would work, but not too many, ... thinking about it. thanks for all the suggestions and nice comments. warm quilt hugs, sue in CA |
