I have been thinking of doing a French Braid and I received a book today on it that I ordered. When I was looking at the braid patterns and the one with a block in the middle I started thinking about what could be added interest there?

I saw this fabric and... light bulb! The floral fabric has 4.5" framed flowers, 2" ones, and a 2" wide tiny floral strip. Thanks to Marcia who discovered the size of the large frames!

I did this in EQ6 tonight and I ordered the floral fabric. I'm still looking for graduations of the colors in something like Fusions.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 07:51 PM

It's going to be beautiful Pam!!!

That is so gorgeous. Will look wonderful in any size, even minature.

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 07:57 PM

EQ is Electric Quilt, quilt design software.

I'll post it, of course. It should be a fairly quick quilt to make.

EQ6 is a quilt design program from the Electric Quilting company. It is a great tool for designing quilts and you can import fabrics into your design.

Chigger Holler Quilter 03-17-2010 07:59 PM

Wow! It's going to be fantastic! Looking forward to seeing a picture when you get it done!

Shibori 03-18-2010 06:12 AM

wow, did you use the easydraw tool or choose a specific setup when you created the worktable for the quilt?

butterjoy 03-18-2010 06:48 AM

I really like the color coordination! It is beauiful with flowers too! I don't have the electric quilt program so, can it be done in another way? I would love to do one.

Ditter43 03-18-2010 06:50 AM

I can't wait to see the quilt.....I think it will be beautiful!!! Good plan!!

Ditter

dkabasketlady 03-18-2010 08:08 AM

That will be one awesome quilt! Can't wait to see finished quilt.

Marcia 03-18-2010 08:16 AM

Pam--I LOVE it!!!! I can't wait to see it made up. (And I can't believe I couldn't figure this one out!! :) )

pittsburgpam 03-18-2010 08:46 AM

I started with a New Quilt, Vertical Stripes. I made the stripes 12" x 80", added the 1" and 2" stripes (borders) between them, added the 1" inner border and the 6" outer border.

I created a new block, size 12"x80", and just used the drawing tool to do 45 degree lines to make the braid. It isn't exactly the measurements of the pattern but it was easiest to just do whole inches for design.

Oh wow... I found a floral in the same fabric collection for the border!

With this black background I think that the end triangles on the braid strips should be black instead of beige.

Quilter7x 03-18-2010 10:34 AM

Yes definitely black triangles or they will stick out.

This is going to be a beautiful quilt. When you finish, I'm going to share a picture with my LQS since they have taught a class on this.

pittsburgpam 03-18-2010 10:46 AM

I ordered the floral border fabric. Now to find the fabric for the braids. Looking online it seems that the Marbelous colors go very well with the other two fabrics.

mytwopals 03-18-2010 11:29 AM

I like this darker border fabric better than the small print floral. With the darker background, I think it goes better with the bright gradations fabrics. It's going to be another PittsburgPam masterpiece, I'm sure.

Got all my fabric choices done and ordered. :-D

Instead of trying to find yardage just of the Fusions I wanted, I ordered two jelly rolls that contain every color, 139 colors. I got Fusions Grass for the green border and Moda Marbles Charcoal for the black triangles (to throw something different in there instead of another Fusions).

Quilter7x 03-18-2010 12:54 PM

Considering that you won't get your order until maybe Tuesday next week, do you think you'll have it done by Wednesday?

  just kidding!

You chose spectacular colors for this project and it will be beautiful!

Jim's Gem 03-18-2010 12:57 PM

It's going to be gorgeous!!!

pittsburgpam 03-18-2010 12:59 PM

Well, if I get the Vintage quilt done by then I just might. :-P

I hope it goes together in person since I've only seen them online. Should be able to use the exact colors I want with 139 Fusions colors to choose from.

Quilter7x 03-18-2010 01:00 PM

I've never seen this quilt being made, but I've seen several of them in person. It is amazing how different they all come out with different colors.

You will shock us all if you complete this quilt top in one day!

Chigger Holler Quilter 03-18-2010 01:49 PM

Gorgeous! What is the fabric line? Would like to find a nice floral with black background. Haven't look yet, though. I think I'd like one with red in it. You are going to have a beautiful finished quilt! Glad you found the coordinating floral.

MollieSue 03-18-2010 01:50 PM

It's going to be absolutely beautiful!! And do please post pictures of your progress!!
:) :)

pittsburgpam 03-18-2010 02:04 PM

The fabric line has different tones called Vintage (what I got), Jewel, and Autumn. The Autumn ones have more red/orange rather than the magenta/pink.

I could only find the framed floral AND the coordinating strips in Vintage or I might have got the Jewel ones for the colors.

Here's the floral with black background in Autumn. Several places had it that I found in a google search.
