My husband found this sewing machine in storage. I remember taking it out of an old wooden sewing cabinet, but didn't know where the machine was stored. Now, I want to retore the machine. Slowly buying parts and DH is cleaning it. Nearby Singer repairman said he would fix for $62-72...sight unseen. ??
I know it was made in Clydebank, Scotland in 1949.

How much does your husband think it needs besides a slide cover? These machines were made so we could work on them ourselves. I plan on using Billy's directions (Lostn51) to clean my 1952 machine. I may take her completely apart - I'll see. Go to the vintige site and you'll get lots of help.

I went online and used the serial number to locate the place & year the machine was made. Even though it says Great Britain, it was made in Scotland.
I purchased a rubber belt and a #66 bobbin for a total of $2.87 The plate will be in tomorrow and costs about $12. So, after cleaning it all up, it really looks good. DH gone for a couple of days. Will ask how it is coming along when he gets back. It's in his tool room.

It looks like a 99, is it 3/4 scale size? I love my 99, like a FW but a lot heavier; and of course it doesn't have a hinged bed. Great one for a first time sew-er. I love a project like this.
