Furry Puppy - Lessons Learned

A week or so ago, I posted my Puppy quilt and was so excited to make another one with fake fur and fleece. Boy, was THAT a learning curve!

1) Use a ballpoint needle to sew fleece and fake fur together if you ever feel the need to sew this ungodly combination!
2) Sew REALLY SLOW
3) Use a long straight stitch. Don't even THINK about satin stitch or blanket stitching it!
4) Use the teflon sheet and iron fusible on from the back side of fabric when possible
5) Use a very LIGHTWEIGHT fake fur

I melted Puppy's face with the iron the first time and had to do fabric surgery to fix it. He still had a scar.
The heavy fur that I used makes the quilt feel awkward, lopsided, off balance. I hope lightweight fur will fix that.
I swear I saw steam coming from my seam ripper to fix the whole blanket stitching debacle!
Look at the photo, doesn't he just look out of balance with that super heavy fur?

That being said, I AM going to try it again. In theory, he should just be so cute you can't stand it! This time, cream colored fleece with a tan/black spotted lightweight fake fur. It should look like he has a spotty belly! Oh, and I followed directions this time and there were no puckers anywhere and the birthing method worked like a charm. Hmmmmm....follow directions...what a concept!

Well, regardless of the problems the puppy created, he's/she's as cute as a button.

I think he is adorable, well worth the pains you had making him.

I guess I'll forgive him for being a pain. He IS a Puppy after all!

Here's the new Puppy. The lightweight fur was SO much easier to work with! I thought I'd lost my mind or my machine was totally messed up with the heavy fur-it just didn't work!
I got this Puppy done in 7 hours flat - not bad!

And now I have to get a 3 hour class prepped on how to make Chick! Chick is Puppy's older sibling and he's already published. I just sold some of the patterns to a local craft store and they're going to promote it with a class!
