Hi All....I've posted a couple of times about making 3 lap quilts out of my brother's shirts (he passed away almost 3 yrs ago now) for me, my sister and my mother. well I finally cut up all the shirts and laid out the first one. it's just simple square blocks, I'm not a very good quilter so this was easy for me and it will do the job I want them to.....be able to snuggle under his quilts esp when I'm missing him! anyway here is what I've laid out for my mother's quilt, very basic & simple.

Your mother is going to love this quilt. She can snuggle under it.

what a blessing for your family! I have done this with my father's clothes, making hand woven rugs out of his double knit slacks.
OUt of my mom's housecoats I made rugs for my sister and myself.
years of wonderful memories.

Beautiful idea and quilt. I wish I had been into quilting when my father died. He had so many shirts that would have been great for memorial quilts.

Great job. I wish I would have done that when my husband passed away.

Thanks ladies! I just started sewing the squares on to muslin to make it more sturdy and easy to sew and man that is proving to be difficult! I love this project but I hate working w/ shirt material! LOL

that is so great

oh that is so sweet. you will treasure that quilt. just press seams of each row every other way. then they will nestle together when you go to sew the rows together.

so my mother's quilt is complete. I will have to post a picture tonight....but one small problem. one of my seams ripped apart and there is a small hole in it. OMG this always happens to me!! I can not make a quilt w/out holes appearing. I tried so hard not to sew small seams (I think I sew too small of seams & they rip apart) I must have just not gone big enough on this seam. need to figure out how to patch that.......grrrrr

It will be a true blessing when it's done.
