Handquilting finished on 2 tops
3 Attachment(s)
My mother and I have a collaboration, she enjoys handquilting but not piecing while I prefer piecing to quilting. I went home last weekend for her retirement party and was able to get photos of two recently completed quilts.
The first one I assembled the top using some blocks that had been painted and then donated to the church quilt group. The church group did the hand quilting and the quilt was raffled off last weekend. I was not able to get pictures of the entire thing but tried to get a few that showed off the quilting. The quilting outlined the flowers and the chimneys and cornerstones blocks in the middle. The second one is a top I made using the pattern "Third weekend in October". This one is probably going to be saved for my niece once she is a little older and out of a crib. The quilting was done freehand, outlining and making stems on each leaf. I've shown pictures of these before when they were just tops but now they are really finished. |

They are beautiful! I love the leaf one ~ well the painted one, too. I hope it raised lots of money as it well should!

I LOVE the painted one the best, the colors just pop out at you. You and your mother do a great job, both quilts are wonderful.
Awesome love the hand quilting.

Beautiful! I really like how you picked up the colours in the painted blocks and framed them with the pieced blocks.

Breathtaking!!!!!! Magnificent quilting!!!! WOW...............:)
Especially love the first one,but both are absolutely stunning!
Both are absolutely beautiful....I've been a hand-quilter since 1976 but have recently been trying to master free-motion quilting....of course my proficiency doesn't match my hand-quilting skills but there's no way I could ever finish everything without learning to machine quilt.....I love how you set up the painted blocks and plan to use that idea....but I really like the second pattern....Where did you find "Third Weekend in October"?
Both are amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Two AMAZING quilts!
They're both gorgeous! Nice work!
Wow is right! All are beautiful.
Mother hand quilted. She used a yard stick to make the straight lines drawn with a lead pencil. The lines
she drew were just as wide as the yard stick. What an uncomplicated way to make straight lines. (and they always washed out of the finished quilt) These are g-r-e-a-t. Thanks for showing. |
I am amazed!! Fantastic quilts and quilting! I never thought about quilt blocks when I was doing fabric painting.....I don't know if i would have ever done as nice a job, but should have tried..
Fabulous quilts, loved both of them. Your mother's work is beautiful.
the artwork in these quilts, the puffy cozy want to snuggle up with a book of the fall leaves you can almost smell the crispness in the air. I couldn't 'choose a favorite' out of these. they both are simply exquisite!
They are both stunning, great job!!!!
