Yeah ... I'm finished and Scott loved the quilt and pillow! My gal who quilts my larger quilts on her longarm machine fell in love with the quilt and actually took it to her quilting group at the LQS for show & tell! She did a great job on the quilting! I did the binding by sewing the various strips of fabric together to make a long strip. I really like the "variegated" look it made on the binding. I had a strip which actually had "Tommy Bahama" on it so I used that on the backing. I lucked out with that strip! Beside the silk shirts I had to work with, Scott also gave me 2 rayon shirts, so I made a pillow out of them. The one white shirt just had the large embroidery on the back & it was perfect for the pillow front. I think the other shirt made a great backing and cording for the pillow. He really liked the pillow. I'm happy that this project is over, but it was a fabulous experience for me. Scott was blown away with the finished products. I truly wanted to give him a quilt that would depict his shirts & I think this pattern really shows each shirts. Some of the pictures are before I put the binding on the quilt.
Now it's on to the next!!

That quilt is SO impressive! Loved the pillow too, and the way you used the shirt front and buttoning to 'seal' the pillow. Wow!

Love it! I've been following your progress as i also have a pile of silk shirts to work on. I have a few (more) questions... What kind of batting, backing and thread did your long armer use? I was thinking about going with cotton backing, but maybe springing for silk batting and thread but don't know if I need to. Thanks for including us in your project, I loved seeing the process!

I supplied the batting and backing for the quilt. I believe the long armer used a cotton thread. I used silk thread when piecing the quilt. I was able to get the tread at JoAnns when the thread was on sale. The backing material was a cotton, as well as the batting. I used white cotton muslin as the foundation when sewing the blocks. The backing and foundation materials were pre-washed.

I really hope you get to make your quilt. It was a great experience for me. I loved each and every block! Let me know if you when you start ... please post pictures too.

Didn't make it to Candy Dance this year. Maybe next year. I worked on the quilt and one for my sister.
