Help!
 

I hope the pic works this time ;) I am lost as to what to quilt on this so any suggestions would really really be appreciated--my daughter sent this to me and asked me to quilt it---I am new and still figuring out what designs go with what---thanks for your time and suggestions. Em

I think a simple meander would look nice. I like to use curvy quilting with linear piecing.

I usually also do curved quilting on linear piecing and would usually go with feathers in the white squares, but somehow, I looked at your beautiful quilt and thought "square spiral" - easier on a domestic then on a longarm, but if you are using a longarm, just use a ruler to keep you straight. I would start about 1/2" into the block and go around, leaving an inch between the lines as you spiral in and then spiral out again between your lines - you end up with quilting about 1/2" apart, and an easy way to go into and out of each block without stopping and starting at each block.

I would make one spiral per block.

Your ...I am new...new to quilting? Than offset and streight line white triangles and stitch in ditch the color fabrics. Use the longest stitch length. Nice top. Good luck..unless you are good at free motion...keep lines streight.

I can't help with the quilting...... but I just wanted to say I love the quilt!

Ditto... I'm no help in the suggestion department (I think it depnds on if you want to soften the squares or go with them -- I think either way would be good), but I wanted to say I love this quilt! It looks so crisp & fresh!

I vote some stitch in the ditch to keep it from moving and then some thing with curves in it.
Or in you white spaces some feathers.

Very pretty quilt. How about a large daisy-type flower in each square then something simple in the borders?

Very nice quilt, but if I'm seeing it clearly looks like the borders are waving a bit. Easiest way to calm them down is meandering, but if you want it to be special, consider doing a paisly design especially in the white areas and the borders. Sort of a teardrop type design, keeping the base of the teardrop the same and echoing out on the top. After 3 or 4 echos, move to the second one. and so forth. I love this design and use it a lot to really fancy up a quilt.

I don't have any suggestions but wanted to say that your quilt is beautiful. Wonderful job and use of colors.

Will you be machine quilting this top? If so I would recommend a very easy and elegant way to quilt this top. I would serpentine all the seams, on each side of each seam. Much faster than SID and it will give a lacy look to the finished top. It can be stitched continuously with very few stops and starts. Work out you quilting path before you start and you will be able to stitch all the way across the quilt and fill in each block until you need to change bobbins. This is a quilt that I would love to quilt!

As for the borders, they look to be made with 2 inch strips, so I would do the same with them. Just serpentine (or zig zag) on each side of each seam.

I am no help for suggestions either-but I love the top.

I agree. I would do stitch in the ditch diagonally along the sides of the diamonds.

It's a very pretty quilt. Would you consider echo stitching the white squares around the edge and then adding the diagonals through the squares and stitch in the ditch with the coloured squares? Otherwise, a small wreath in each of the white squares and stitch in the ditch with the coloured squares? I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing the completed quilt. Just wanted to say what a lovely quilt top. Colours and pattern are great.

You ALL have been so helpful and encouraging....I forgot to mention this is for a 3yr old little boy, but, I also have a bigger one for his Daddy....a Daddy and Me quilt. I am still thinking - actually a bit intimidated to start. LOL Just got back from a long vacation.

All depends on what kind of feel you're going for. If looking for crisp lines you can copy the exact piecing in the open blocks and stitch in the ditch in the pieced blocks. If you're looking for variety, then something with curve movement in the open blocks. Or a combination like waves with peaks and curves... the possibilities are endless!

When I'm not sure what to quilt on my quilt I take some vinyl (cheap at joanns) and draw the pattern in permanent ink on the vinyl and then try out patterns with dry erase pen until I get one I like. Protect your quilt when you remove the dry erase. It"s a great way to see the design on your quilt before you quilt it and don't like it.
