Ok, I survived "Butterfly Fancy" ~ now its time to get the other wedding quilt done for my nephew (Jess' brother) :)

If you don't remember the original post, they are having a "hippy wedding" ~ so I asked what pattern everyone would think of when they think "hippy" ~ I have it down to two patterns, bargello or mosaic tile. Bargello is topping the list, and I've been collecting the fabrics for 3 months now...

This will be a personal challenge for me, as I love both of their chosen colors, but I would not have normally put them together, per se... They chose crimson (his fave) and purple (her fave).

So, let the creation begin... here is what we have for color choices, all four of us have been arranging order and rearranging order for the last week:

there are four more fabrics in the wash, as soon as I get those pressed, they will be filtered in...

I'm looking forward to your creation!
Have you chosen which bargello pattern you'll use?

Love angels 07-31-2011 08:51 AM

Oh wow that is going to be great. Can't wait to see it.

yeah, I love both colors individually ~ but I never would have done something with "just" those colors... but its a special request from them, so I'll oblige LOL! Let's just say this one will be interesting! I had the kids and hubby all arranging the colors... it was funny, something got moved around each day!

mequilter 07-31-2011 09:18 AM

I think it's going to be very pretty. Please post pictures of it in progress.

GwynR 07-31-2011 09:27 AM

I would have never thought of those two colors together, but you are making it work and I can't wait to see pictures of the quilt!

Maggie_Sue 07-31-2011 10:00 AM

WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW! Love them!

KarenK 07-31-2011 11:57 AM

Luscious colors and fabrics! In the photo on my monitor, I see reds, blue-reds, red-violets, violets, and blue-violets. These will look very well together because they are analogous colors (next to each other) on the color wheel.

Please post as you work on this quilt. I would love to follow your progress.

nellybelle 07-31-2011 11:58 AM

I was a florist before I retired and my favorite combination was red roses and purple statice. I love the two colors together and always wanted to do my bedroom in them.

mh2559 07-31-2011 01:30 PM

Great colors.

CompulsiveQuilter 08-01-2011 03:34 AM

Ok, so I have my old lady 15-91 clone out at the camper with me... (I'm not a fool!) and it starts pouring down rain today, out of nowhere... good time to, you guessed it, QUILT!

So we got a start on the bargello wedding quilt... I am not following any pattern per se, I am just going to let it take me wherever she wants to go. :) That is so fun, especially on bargello designs!

So this is what I have for my "test" to make sure the colors are going to play nicely... I like it! Not sure which way it will orient itself yet, have to get a little more groundwork done first...

TacoMama 08-01-2011 04:29 PM

Love those fabrics!

fabric whisperer 08-01-2011 04:29 PM

sorry the colors kinda went wonky there, not sure why... and yes, each fabric has either a crimson or a purple of some sort in it... I actually had about a dozen other fabrics too, but they didn't play nicely with the others, so they got put in timeout on the shelf. :)

We have 16 fabrics we're working with... the one that keeps coming up as a rude blue is actually a very deep purple, it was overcast when I shot the pics, so it just doesn't want to show its pretty color

SWEETPEACHES 08-01-2011 04:31 PM

That's really pretty!

Years ago I planted a tulip bed with red and purple flowers. I don't know how I made that choice or why. At the time I was a serious gardener and had beautiful beds all around. I hosted garden tours at my home and sold perennials. Guess which bed was most commented on? You better believe it! Red and purple. Unusual is good! I love the red violet in your choices. They blend superbly. Have fun!

dunngriffith 08-01-2011 05:38 PM

love the colors. Have just started one for my daughter., Good luck to both of us!

oooh, I am an avid gardener too ~ that sounds beautiful! Now that you mention it, I have purple Iris / crocus & red tulip near each other, but they don't bloom at the same time!

more progress... I've been camping with the kids so only worked on it while it was raining, or at night... nearly at the right width, got to add a few more inches ... And now that I have this strip, the fabrics have kinda told me where they want to go next... so I'll leave that as a surprise :)

hubby is 6-ft tall, so I left the picture sideways to get the right effect.

You are so good. From that original pile I was thinking you didn't have enough light fabric but the finished product says differently. Great job so far.

kateyb 08-05-2011 07:56 PM

These are my best friend's colors. You'd be surprised how well they go together.

debbieumphress 08-05-2011 07:58 PM

OMG I Knew it was going to be great before I saw it. Love those colors. Can't wait to see it when you get it done.
