I've finished this quilt for my parents - first queen sized quilt, and I DON'T DO hand work - hate it! So I was wondering, does swirly curly quilting patterns look strange on geometric shaped pieced tops, or should I stick to the ditch?

Not at all. Often it nicely offsets the geometric pattern, so you don't overdose on the squares.
|
something very round with something very straight always looks great. I say go for it,you wont be disapointed.
|
I personally like swirls and loops with squares and rectangles. I say go for it.
|
I think swirlies would look awesome!!
|
I'd also go for circles or swirles. I think it would look beautiful.
I love the top now - please show us again when you're done with the quilting! |
I think what I'm going to do is outline each 9-patch block using a SID, using a decorative stitch, then on the inside of each block I'll do a different free motion design. Should be interesting, and break things up, and separate one design from another. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I often do swirly whirly curly machine quilting on very geometric tops. I think it softens them up some, and adds another dimension to the design.
HOWEVER....this one doesn't need help at all. If you do SID it would remain a very strong design... and it looks great!!! |
