I can sew the triangles. I can cut them apart. But I cannot square them up so that I do not cut the points off when I sew them together. Hope I made sense

Hope I can explain it enough to be understood, but if you center it when you square it up, you'll still get the "points".
I just recently finished squaring mine up. I had 176 of them, times the four sides, equals a whole lotta squarin' up! Have to get busy and start sewing them together now. |
I used the tutorial from Sharon Schamber and it was amazing. I had to sit and do it with the computer right next to me, stop, rewind, really study the technique, but it's absolutely spot on for accuracy. It's amazing. I just made a bunch of HST's and they were as close to perfect as anything I've ever done. Not a single one was off, stretched or anything.
Using this, the first set took me quite a while because I kept watching and rewinding to get what she was saying, but once I had it down, boy, they went quickly. the video is for "Sharon's Magic Triangles" Have fun! |

The points going down the center have to be on the diagonal perfectly for the points to come out right. The square rulers have a line the goes diagonally though it. Place the line exactly on the line and make sure the block is the right size by carefully cutting up and over the top, turn and do the same with the other side. Don't mash it out of shape, sometimes we take off too much that way.
I want to add something ... The pressing should be done with a dry iron in a press lift motion. It is often the pressing that gets us into trouble with the bias edges of the hst's. I hope this helps you. |
Thanks everyone . I'm going to try again. I'm going through a spell og dumbness. lol

i agree with the press/lift pressing, but must be a troublemaker by pointing out that i use steam to set my HST.
i think we're both right. |

I used Brenda Henning's Triangulations 2.0 when I did a Mariner's Compass Block. It is absolutely wonderful, easy, and fast. I made 2 inch hst and it was a breeze! I looked and looked online because the price is 27.95 which would be totally worth the money, but I found it at Keepsake Quilting for 17.99 and 3.99 shipping............. I ordered it and believe me, it will be the only way I ever do half square and quarter square triangles, that is unless they come up with an easier, faster, more accurate way.
