A Huggle sorely needed.

Over the years that I have been a quilter I have given so many quilts away, many to Project Linus but many more to friends, families and other people in need, I call them my "Huggles". Last night I gave this to Sam my Sewing machine man, it is made completely from Quilting Flannels so it is exceptionally cosy.
What is amazing that this wonderful man has fought Leukaemia for over 13 years! Without telling us he carried on giving TLC to our loved but old and tired antique and vintage machines and with his wonderful wife by his side he keeps bees and makes the most wonderful Honey. If you haven't noticed I admire this man so much, I went through my Cancer fight nearly 50 years ago and I hope I did it with the dignity and courage that he shows, GO SAM GO. TOP TIP: Go through your UFOs and make a Huggle ready, just in case. |
This quilt is right from the heart. So lovely.
Your kindness and giving heart will not go unnoticed... Thanks for sharing a piece of your kind heart... |

That is a great idea to have a comfort quilt waiting in the wings. You never know when an occasion will arise where you don't have time to construct one.

BTW It was Hurricane Katrina that made me realise what a wonderful gift of a quilt is and how precious those UFOs can be. |

Yep, I now have a dozen all washed and ready to be gifted to somone. I have quite a bit of flannel in my stash, so I will make a couple "Huggles" to keep handy too. That is a wonderful story. Bless you and your sewing machine man.

What a wonderful gesture, and even more... it's beautiful quilt! Kudos to you!

If he turned away when you gave it to him it was to hid the tears that sprung up! I've never thought about having a quilt or two on hand. After about 100 quilts I have finally made one for us and intend to make one more. All the rest have gone to family and groups in need (for blankets or to auction them for funds). I love the idea of having one handy in case of just suddenly realizing it may be a comfort! Thanx!

Pretty quilt, love the colors. Go Sam...........

I enjoy making and giving these smaller quilts that I always called NAP QUILTS. The name Huggles is much better thank you for the story. I have friends who say these aren't worth the time and see no value in them but I disagree. They are much nicer and more lasting than a Get Well card. Blessings to you.

Huggle quilts are what make us quilters, I'm sure all of us have done at least one if not many in this same vein and yes keeping one on hand is important. When I moved to this small community 12 years ago I noticed a house burned to the ground. So I asked the ladies at the bank what had happened then went to the car and brought back a quilt in a pillow case. I asked if they could give it to that family to help them rebuild there home. That has been one of many I like the term huggles to share with others since hugs mean so much to me.

sweet story. beautiful quilt.
|
So nice of you. I am sure he felt blessed.
|
What a huge heart you have! Blessings on you, Sam, and his wife.
|
What a wonderful gift from you to one of the men who keeps us going. Hugs to you both! Where would we be without those people who keep our machines purring?
