Husband's jean made a nice handbag :) Yes, he knows :)

I wanted a new handbag and had a pair of my husband's old jeans asking to be recycled into somthing fun. I also had been wanting to try my hand at ribbon embroidery. What better place to embroidery then on a pair of jeans. Made me remember my jeans during my teenage years in the 70s. Okay, the embroidery then was more peace signs and such, but I think my flowers on the handbag turned out nicely and the leather purse handles really adds to the bag. The jeans were Harley Davidson jean hence the HD logo. A cool thing with the HD jean is the watch or coin pocket is, it is complete pocket, so I used it on the front of the bag. Thanks for looking.:)

Excellent idea ... how cute

Question
How did you make the handles Or what did you make them from? Thanks |
Great looking purse! Looks more "grown-up" than other patterns for recycled jeans purse. Did you put pockets on the inside? How did you line it?
|
That is one cute purse, and I agree it is a much nicer pattern than the usual old jean purses. Would be interested to know how you did it.

How clever you are! Love the bag and a great way to recycle.

Thank you for all of the nice comments. I did not use a pattern. I have made several bags and used the knowledge I have gained to make this one. I recommendation is find a pattern you like and modify it to meet your needs.
This is how I made my bag: I used the upper thigh part of both legs. I ripped out the inner leg seam and ripper the pockets off the back of the jeans. Lucky for me the little pocket (on the front of my bag) on the front of the Harley Davidson jeans is a complete pocket and not a pocket that the bottom is just closed with the seam of the front pocket is it in. I hope that made sense. Instead of ironing fusible fleece or interfacing to the bag I ironed to the lining. I made the shell and lining of the bag, I folded the top edges down 1/2 inch, then inserted the lining in the shell, and top stitch the edged together. I then sewed the handles on. I didn't care that the stitching would show inside the bag. I also used a magentic snap for a closer, but you could add a zipper if you want. Hope that is understandable. :) |
I don't care for jean purses, but I love this one. I also love the handles, and the batik for lining. So much more classy to me.

Love the little embroidery I spied on the first side-hope hubby has other jeans to wear out for you
|
Very clever of you. I would love that bag mostly because of the outside pockets.
I must have a phone pocket! Great job. |
that's really cute.
