Awhile back I started using my pieces of scraps and threads, ribbons, lace, etc to make "fabric" that I could then make Bible covers from. This one, like the rest, have a pen pocket and memo pocket in the front flap, a memo pocket on the back flap, 3 crocheted bookmarks, and padded in between the cover and lining as well as on the flaps. I call them "Out of Chaos" since they come from such a mish-mash of materials and turn into a one of a kind, original piece of fabric. Good way to use up scrap, too.

Have you ever used ribbon for the book markers? How long does it usually take to make one? Very neat idea!

I did use ribbon on a few, but in trying to use stock that I had on hand I ran into the problem of having the right colors and/or widths. It doesn't look as nice or work as well if the ribbon is too wide. And, since I crochet I always have on hand many colors of crochet cotton (the small type used for doily making or filet crochet). It crochets up tight and works well for a bookmarker. The longest process is creating the fabric. I get kinda fussy making sure it has all the spaces filled and digging in my scraps for the right colors. (If I took the time to organize my scraps into color coordinated bins it would help. lol) It's funny, my attempt at using my scraps up sometimes just results in more scraps. It probably takes me a couple of hours making the fabric, less than 20 minutes to make all my cut outs - outside cover, lining with batting, flaps with batting, and pockets and cording. Another 10 minutes maybe with making cording and applying. So probably within about 3 hours from start to finish. I get so caught up in the making I don't pay attention to time, and usually I make up a bunch of outside covers at once, as well as assembly line cutting the other pieces, so it's a little hard to be exact.

I have been very blessed in finding a Bible bookstore locally that buys from me regularly and sold a few others during Christmas for gifts. If I can ever get enough stock built up I'll be offering them on Etsy. There's others on my blog if you'd like to take a look. I also do custom orders.
