This was an accident. I was playing around with some stripes of fabric tryting to make a scrappy quilt for DH. I took Rhonda's idea on HTS's and Omak's idea on jelly roll and combimed tthe two and wound up with this design. I didn't know there was any kind of a design until I was laying the blocks out and there it was. I got so excited that I made my whole family come look at it, now I have to show it to you all.
There is 2 different pic's. I have more blocks than this just so you know. Thank you for looking.

WOW -- that's stunning!!! Good job!! :D

bearisgray 05-24-2010 08:40 AM

Lots of motion in the design.

Very masculine looking.

Quilter7x 05-24-2010 08:40 AM

It looks really nice and I love the HST as cornerstones.

cjomomma 05-24-2010 08:42 AM

Thank You. Even tho my DH has seen it he doesn't know it if for him. I have to do most of my sewing while he is home because little man will bug him instead of me. I'm still in shock that I did this.

redrummy 05-24-2010 08:43 AM

looks great. I like the way it flows. isn't it fun when it just happens? i love doing that.

cjomomma 05-24-2010 08:45 AM

I need to pick a color for sashing any suggestions? Please. I can look at others and make a suggestion but with mine I struggle.

sewhappy57 05-24-2010 08:45 AM

FABULOUS DARLING!

DebsShelties 05-24-2010 08:46 AM

Looks great, can't wait to see it finished.

sewjoyce 05-24-2010 08:53 AM

I think either a red (to match the stripe) or a dark blue sashing would be great. But I prefer the red.....

Jim's Gem 05-24-2010 08:54 AM

It's beautiful!~!!!

Ms Grace 05-24-2010 09:04 AM

It's beautiful! :D
I think a dark red or navy for the sashing..

virtualbernie 05-24-2010 09:10 AM

pittsburgpam 05-24-2010 09:10 AM

That is just wonderful!!! I love that.

MamaBear61 05-24-2010 09:11 AM

Way to go, you did good. I agree with the others about either a deep red or navy sashing. My favourtie would be the red, but perhaps the navy would be more to your DH's liking. Keep us posted.

paintedquilt 05-24-2010 09:25 AM

Wow

RedGarnet222 05-24-2010 09:25 AM

Omg! I love this. I sure hope you can find a dark brown for the sashings, that looks very cool!

KGoodhand 05-24-2010 09:26 AM

That looks great!

QuiltingGrannie 05-24-2010 09:32 AM

You go girl! I had to look closer when you said you needed sashing. I like the brown!. It makes the other colors and blocks pop.

quiltinggirl 05-24-2010 10:15 AM

Awesome Job!! :)

MadQuilter 05-24-2010 10:17 AM

You know, that red paisley could be used in a similar fashion (I love that "ugly fabric" of yours) lol. Of course you can do this. No surprise here! Nicely executed - bet the hubs will be excited.

rootyr 05-24-2010 10:23 AM

Nice!!

mygirl66 05-24-2010 11:07 AM

Thank you. If I had any of that paisley print left I would give it to you but Norbana got it all. There wasn't a whole lot of it, maybe half a yard.

ann clare 05-24-2010 11:12 AM

Thank You.
Funny how something you lay your blocks on can become sashing color for a quilt. I haven't decided yet what color to use but the brown is a possiblity.

cjomomma 05-24-2010 11:17 AM

Thank You everyone for your kind comments. I can't wait to finish this one. I just got a walking foot from Lucinda and I can't wait to try it. I have already got 3 quilts lined up to quilt, this is num 4.

Pam 05-24-2010 11:23 AM

Isn't it nice when we have a happy accident! What about another stripe for the sashing? Run it North and South and East and West.

no1jan 05-24-2010 11:26 AM

You did a great job! Can't wait to see the finished project!

Darlene 05-24-2010 11:28 AM

So happy I had a tiny bit in your inspiration!! I love to take ideas and tweak them so cudos to you for taking ideas and making them your own!! Just think what you will come up with in the future!!! I love seeing what is around the next corner!!

I played around with different colors for the sashing and I think dark blue will work best. Thank you all for your great suggestions.

Ditter43 05-24-2010 02:20 PM

That looks amazing!!! I think a black sashing would really pop the design and colors....Can't wait to see it finished.
