here are pictures of the layout of my g'nephews quilt the one I was going to do pinwheels on and messed up the math confirations. they live in South Carolina and his mom my niece suggested something to do with SC I thing I have the moon on the flag backwards none of the appliques have been secured I just finished deciding how to lay it out. Don't you just love the crab? There will be some stitching to embilish the appliques. Now how to finish it it is only 32 in square do I need to but something between the squares or just do boarders? Plan on using the dark blue with dots for boarder and maybe the solid blue. Do I need to use the white somewhere? Oh think I'll use the red/white dotted as a boarder?! ps that is a shrimp on the bottom right square

Very cute - but for me, the shrimp looks upside down - should it be turned 180 degrees? As for borders - I'd go with the red dot (1") for the first (stop) border, then the lite blue (2") for the next border, and the final border in the blue dot (4")- or skip the middle lite blue border - but I think three borders really classes it up!

I would put a narrow border of while around the medallion center and then do a border of the quarter-square blocks in navy and white. Finish with a wider traditional border in red.

Really cute - he will love it!

how old is he, and what size bed does he use? do you want it crib size or bigger? the size really depends on what matarial you have on hand, and what size you really want it to be. if he is just a newborn, crib is fine, sometimes i do a twin if he is in a twin bed. etc. depending on if you need to stretch the material you have, will depend on if you put something in between each square, or just continue on the way you are going. it is beautiful, and will be whatever the size you make. great job on the applique!!!!! 8-) 8-)

Could you do another row of blocks on the side and on the bottom? That would make it 25 blocks. He's a growing boy so no sense in making it too small. I like the border ideas already given.
