Disappearing nine patch is so fun. First you start with a block looking one way and then like magic you have a block that looks completely different.
Break over back to sewing. DH had to work today, so I’m trying to get as much done as I can. I need this done for a baby shower on 9/18. I know not really baby colors, but it is going be a boy, so I thought boy not baby. :D deb Regular 9 patch Disappearing 9 patch |
Oh that is going to be great. Make sure you post a completed picture!!
|
That is going to be a great quilt.
|
AHA!! I finally get it!! I am so slow-you literally have to draw me a picture. Or, in this case, post me a picture! I have not understood the "disappearing nine patch" until right now.
I love your disappearing nine patch. The fabrics are adorable and it is going to be a really neat quilt. Please post more pics as you go. |
I get it now too! It will be wonderful gift. Look forward to seeing the finished project.

Wonderful love this pattern ...on my to do list....good one for our boys in the service....
|
Oooh - I really like it. I've been thinking my next quilt will be a variety of blocks, and I think I'll include this one. It looks like so much fun.
|
That is so cute and the little baby boy will love it! So will his mother!!
|
That's going to be so cute when you are done!!
|
 Deb, it's going to be a great quilt! Very colorful and fun. Post pics when you get the top done.
|
Love your colors. I have every intention of doing a disappearing 9-patch and this gives me an idea what to do with some extra charm squares I got in packets. Didn't want to use the kids prints in my scrap quilt but they'll make a great baby/child's quilt. I was thinking of getting rid of them but i guess I'll keep collecting them. . . The fabricholic in me is showing!

That is so nice and bright! That baby will grow to be a boy soon enough and this quilt will last him for quite a spell. It is lovely.
The split 9 patch is one of my very favorites. I have made 3 now and none resemble the other - depends upon how you put the "splits" back together. Can hardly wait to see thefinished product. |
fun fun fun.. boys need quilts too..
I am crossing my fingers for a baby girl grandling.. but.. who knows. I have on hand boy stuff too !! Thanks for sharing ! Great idea.. I love Eye Spy quilts ! Ellen |

Thank you all for your comments. |
I am making one with my quilt club right now. We are using 3 fabrics. Your before and after block posts were great. Thank you so much for posting the whole top. I've never had a chance to really look at a 9 patch, or it's variation, that is so scrappy!! Usually, the scrappiness I see is too much and it's hard for me to see what the pattern is.
This one, you could still very clearly see the pattern. It was great use of your scraps. Each piece is "high lighted" so to speak. I was showing your pics to a friend of mine who is definitely NOT a quilter. She couldn't believe that it was the same block. She's decided she wants one. Maybe I can get her hooked! Melissa |
You did a wonderful job on this quilt! And your presentation was great - I think you gave us a "Tutorial". Can't wait to start one now. Thanks!
|
I have GOT to try it. So tell me.. Why does it scare me?  :?
Anyways..... Looking good kiddo. :D |
That is so cute, I am going to have to give it a try for one of my grandsons. Thanks for the pictures!!! |

Anyways..... Looking good kiddo. :D It's one of the easiest quilts you can make. Easy is all I do. :D It just looks like a lot of piecing when it is done. Take your 4 batch you like to do and one a few more squares to make it a 9 batch. :D I quilted this quilt in the ditch. I used flannel for the backing. Here is a picture of it completed and washed. It was a hit at the baby shower. Thank you everyone for your kind comments. :-) |

Anyways..... Looking good kiddo. :D Bevanger, you do have to be very careful when you go to cut your 9 patch into the 4 sections. It's easy to overcut or not find the exact middle and then your blocks are off. Take your time when cutting for sure and it will be great. RETRO |
good idea...
|
The way you had it laid out as the original 9-patch still resulted in the novelities facing forward and upright after you cut and resewed?
