I Wooly Love Ewe

This is a wall hanging that I put together and quilted (on my Gammill Optimum Plus) for a man who worked for my husband that retired. I was looking for a sheep pattern and JenniePenny came to my rescue and sent me this awesome pattern. I changed the color scheme and left out the red and made it all blue and cream since blue is his favorite color. I also tried my hand at free hand quilting for the first time and I am very pleased with how it turned out and how much fun it was. It was hard to give this quilt away but made it so much easier when the man and his whole family were in such awe and so thankful. It has gone to a great home. We will put it in the fair in the fall and maybe get a ribbon. Thanks for looking and thanks to JenniePenny for the awesome pattern - it was perfect.

I love it! What pattern did you use? We raise sheep and I think my DH would love a quilt like this.

That is awesome! The sheep are entirely quilting stitches, no appliquéd fabric? What a special quilt and some good FMQ ideas! Thanks for sharing.

question
Is it the quilting to give the sheep the 3-D look?

Fraew 07-02-2012 12:40 PM

It turned out great! Weren't you just looking for a pattern? He he.

I should have put that there was applique involved. The Sheep and hearts were machine appliqued down.

I think you are talking about the quilting on the sheep. I am not sure that it makes it look 3-D but it adds texture. Hope that answered your question.

Hello JLD:
I cannot believe you made that quilt so fast! I love it in those shades of blue and how you quilted in the sheep! You did a great job - I can see why you had a hard time giving the quilt away because it's so cute. Thanks for posting - I'm always curious to see what others make with something I passed along.

Sew precious!

The pattern is in Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting, Jan/Feb 2009. I made one about a year ago for my oldest DD, who is a knitter/spinner/dyer.

I'll post a photo of my version in a separate thread. Don't want to take over this one!

Darling! Adorable! Precious! I don't blame you for wanting to keep this little beauty... nor am I surprised that its new owners were thrilled. This is too cute!
