Well, here is the fruit of my labor. I'm off to rob a bank since all the scrubbing has left me with no ridges on the pads of my fingers....Why Birdie you ask? She's named after a petite and thoroughly loveable character in my favorite novel of all time "Some Wildflower in My Heart" by Jamie Langston Turner. And of course there is the Birdie-Feather correlation. I love her, this long awaited little gem. And I believe I grow so much more attached to a machine when I have to work long and hard at revealing her true beauty.
I forgot to add that as beautiful as she looks, I have no idea whether she sews a stitch. The cords are frayed and needing replacement before a trial run. She does turn over smooth as silk when I turn the handwheel, so I hope that's a good sign of things to come.

Go Jo, Mother's Mag, Brasso, Liquid Gold, toothpicks, toothbrushes, papertowels, Q-tips, but mostly gobs of patience.

Maia B 04-19-2011 10:02 AM

Yes, please don't electrocute yourself! LOL re:robbing a bank b/c you scrubbed your fingertips off. Birdie is beautiful again, great job! The quilt backdrop surely enhances her charm.

suzee 04-19-2011 10:24 AM

What a beautiful machine! You did a great job of polishing her up. I love Jamie Langston Turner also and I have all of her books. Some Wildflower in my Heart is the first one I read and my favorite too!

Donna Mare 04-19-2011 10:30 AM

Beautiful!!!!!

so-sew 04-19-2011 11:25 AM

Thanks for your compliments everyone. I just threaded her up and when I turn the wheel by hand she sews great. Anyone know if that's a good sign? I have my fingers crossed...Am I the only one who gazes at their featherweight and gets a little "squeeze" feeling in their heart. Seriously, I think I'm in love.

Nana2Sew 04-19-2011 11:25 AM

WOW! I bet she sews beautifully. I too, am in love with featherweights .

Have you checked with Billy? You could send him a PM. Or maybe you could ask your question here:

I got my 1st FW in January and understand how you feel about Miss Birdie :-P

miss_ticky2 04-19-2011 02:43 PM

Wow...wouldn't know it was the same machine. If she sews when you turn the wheel, I'm sure she'll sew when you have her powered up too :)

Stitchnripper 04-19-2011 02:47 PM

I think she'll sew too. Let us know!! You did a fabulous job on her. Who needs fingertips!

carhop 04-19-2011 03:19 PM

you did a fantastic job on her

DeniseB 04-19-2011 03:23 PM

What a looker. You did a wonderful job cleaning her up. Enjoy using her.

featherweight 04-19-2011 05:14 PM

If you have a 301, the cord is exactly like the featherweight cord. You could at least see if she sews. Some of the 301's have two plugs but, some have one, just like the featherweight.

so-sew 04-19-2011 05:57 PM

Unfortunately my 301 has two cords. Darn.

Blue Bell 04-19-2011 05:59 PM

She is lovely.
