Ironing area before and after

1st pictures was my ironing area. Next is the ironing board my husband made me. It is a tool box from Lowe's with 1/2" plywood cut 24" x 48". I covered it with cotton batting and the silver ironing board fabric.

Very nifty and clever:thumbup:

What a GREAT idea! Very nice area (and hubby too:)!

jcrow 07-15-2012 07:23 AM

Are you sewing tools in the tool box? Those are expensive. He must really love you!!

Yes I think he really does love me, we have been married 41 years. Tool box was only $99 at Lowe's.

pinkcastle 07-15-2012 08:02 AM

What a clever idea! Your hubby sounds like a real sweetie.

rrhaigh 07-15-2012 08:08 AM

What a great idea - love it. It would also be great to attach a larger piece of plywood and cover it with a cutting mat for a cutting station. My husband made me a cutting station by putting plywood on top of two base cabinets and he attached one of those big white cutting mats from Joanns and put some plastic edging around the edges. Gives me lots of cutting space and room for all my tools, notions and storage space below. I put a regular cutting mat on top because I am not sure of those large white cutting mats are self healing.

Very nice ironing surface and since it's on wheels, you can use it for extra quilt support when FMQ.

Neesie 07-15-2012 08:32 AM

NICE!!! I need to make myself something like that.

Suebear 07-15-2012 08:35 AM

I"m jealous !!!

Deborahlees 07-15-2012 08:37 AM

what a great idea.....bet you could do something similiar with perhaps a find from either the Goodwill or Salvantion Army, an old babychanging table or chest of drawers. I am currently using an old kitchen chopping block table with wire baskets on the bottom, that I put all my embroidery hops in and hang my spray starch from....

Chicca 07-15-2012 08:41 AM

I had to show hubby this! It is brilliant!

mawluv 07-15-2012 08:47 AM

Nice! Love that it's on wheels!

kathdavis 07-15-2012 09:24 AM

Very clever and awesome for storage. A friend of mine uses a tool box to put her 10 needle embroidery machine on because it is so sturdy and is great to store all the hoops and things in. Love the ironing board idea.

nannyrick 07-15-2012 09:50 AM

WOW!!! What a great idea. Looks fabulous!!! Thanks for sharing.

cindy4857 07-15-2012 10:05 AM

I want one. What a wonderful idea. Space saving, sturdy, movable, and cool all in one. I'm showing my hubby this! :-)

oma66 07-15-2012 10:53 AM

 What a great idea. You created so much storage to boot...very impressive.

Rock Lady 07-15-2012 11:31 AM

What a fantastic idea. I think everyone should have one of those.

TexasSunshine 07-15-2012 11:40 AM

My DH made me one like that and I really like it. I use it on top of my large cutting table. There is room at one end to leave it there all the time.

spacebull1 07-15-2012 11:41 AM

Amazing. I envy you. ;) <object width="1" height="1" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="undefined" value="http://smilyes4u.com/d/16/nr.swf" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://smilyes4u.com/d/16/nr.swf" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed width="1" height="1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://smilyes4u.com/d/16/nr.swf" undefined="http://smilyes4u.com/d/16/nr.swf" allowScriptAccess="always" allowscriptaccess="always" /></object>

Grandma Peg 07-15-2012 11:44 AM

Good idea to have wheels and storage. Like your pink iron.

leatheflea 07-15-2012 12:17 PM

Any screw drivers or power tools in there? Great Idea! I'm thinking I might have to paint it though....PINK!....LOL!

Diane007 07-15-2012 05:49 PM

I just showed my husband
thanks for the idea

fxsts93kf 07-15-2012 07:13 PM

Great idea! That's what I love about the QB!

LDB 07-16-2012 05:54 AM

Fabulous idea! Great for extra storage and organization. Did you attach the ironing board top to the tool box in some way or does it simply ride on the top and stay in place with the stabilizing strips on bottom? (At least I think I see stabilizing wood strips on the underside...)

pollyjvan9 07-16-2012 08:06 AM

What a wonderful idea. Love the large pressing area and all the storage is great. I'm thinking I could get rid of several small storage containers and consolidate everything into that one cabinet. Thanks for sharing your idea.

sweet 07-16-2012 08:14 AM

Interesting juxtaposition!

bearisgray 07-16-2012 08:20 AM

I want one, too!

Ruby the Quilter 07-16-2012 02:24 PM

What a great idea. My dh is wanting to get rid of a tool box like that - may paint it and move it to the sewing room.

rusty quilter 07-16-2012 04:35 PM

Great idea--I'll bet you love using it!

AuntieD 07-16-2012 05:14 PM

Now that is a great ironing board! I'm going to put that in my to-do project list.

grann of 6 07-17-2012 03:16 AM

Hey! I have one of those, but it is full of tools in the garage. :D

Quilter'sNook 07-17-2012 03:45 AM

Was wanting to do this also, but was at a loss to find something for the base that was not only sturdy enough but moveable! Never thought of using a tool chest! DUH. You are so smart! Thanks

yetta 07-17-2012 03:53 AM

great idea.....terriffffic hubby....

abdconsultant 07-17-2012 03:54 AM

I want one!!!

karenpatrick 07-17-2012 04:34 AM

Genius. Great idea.

sewmorethings 07-17-2012 04:42 AM

Super neat idea and one can never have enough storage areas. Great job for both you and your hubby

Sewfine 07-17-2012 04:46 AM

That is neat. I bet you have your rulers and quilting notions in the tool box.

chips88 07-17-2012 04:57 AM

very clever idea and lots of storage area. i like it. and you can move it where ever.

jaciqltznok 07-17-2012 05:18 AM
