I've gone feather crazy!

I've been working hard this weekend have my second finish since my shoulder surgery in February. This is a pattern from Julie Popa, called Running Diagonally, and I used a fat quarter pack of vintage style fabrics. While I was recovering from rotator cuff surgery, I watched a ton of You Tube videos on how to quilt free form feathers. Now that I've figured out how to make them, I can't stop myself! The runner measures 71.5 x 16". Thanks for looking, and have a happy 4th of July!

Just lovely! You made good use of your time "off". Were they done on a domestic?

Sewfine 07-01-2013 11:27 AM

Your runner and feathers are beautiful. Are you using a DSM to make feathers? I wish I could make feathers; they enhances the project.

NIICHMOM 07-01-2013 11:31 AM

tuckyquilter 07-01-2013 01:53 PM

Beautiful. Did you mark the pattern first, or just FMQ them as you went along?

Lori S 07-01-2013 01:59 PM

If I could free motion quilt feathers like that , I too would never stop.

Thanks! I am lazy and do everything I can to avoid marking my quilts, so I just FMQ'd them as I went along.

Your feathers are gorgeous, curvatious and at a lovely angle. I love feathers and just love to do them too. Someone forgot to tell you they are addictive.

I've decided that they are Quilter's Crack (next to fabric, of course).

Love your feathers! I am scared to try. Could you tell us which you tube videos you watched? I would like to try my hand at feathers. Did you use a domestic machine or a long arm? Hope your recovery is quick.

raksmum 07-01-2013 10:03 PM

Beautiful Feathers! I've watched the videos and practiced and just haven't found the knack to get them right. So frustrating!

Your new skill is very impressive!!! Just beautiful work. I'm encouraged so I'll start as soon as vacation trips are over with a renewed dedication to watch those tutorials and learn feathers which I think are the loveliest of quilting motifs. Thank you for sharing your work, I'm sure I am not the only one you have inspired this morning. Hope you have had a complete recovery from your surgery.
