THIS IS A NEW THREAD...showing progress as I go
the good and the bad...lol

These are what I have chosen for a quilt called stacked coins.
This is the "first" actual quilt I am making.
I have a brain injury and have only done sandwich quilts.
I am trying to get brave and step outside of the box.
What looks and is simple can be the most confusing
and complicated thing ever.

Cutting the 5x5 went ok on Accuquilt
However...working with the rotary cutter is very scary to me.
I ruined 5 squares and sat down and cried.
Got up and pushed on taking it as slow as I could...
Got all the rest cut without ruining anymore.
This is stressful to say the least.
It is hard to line up my eyesight and the rotary cutting with my brain injuries and NOT cut me.
Will post new up dates as I go along :)
I'm climbing that mountain again...uncharted territory.

Actual Pattern

1st Step...cutting all the 5 x5 squares on Accuquilt Go

2nd Step...cutting 5x5 in half with rotary cutter

Love your colors and that you are blending batiks in with your fabrics. Can't wait to see it all together.

very pretty fabric - keep posting your progress

Harmony 02-18-2011 08:41 AM

Looking good so far! IMHO there's no such thing as a simple quilt--they all present their own challenges! Don't get discouraged! Accept that you're not going to be perfect, and then move on--you'll be pleased with your end result!

Grama Lehr 02-18-2011 08:41 AM

Your color choices are absolutely wonderful!!!
Keep going!! :-P

Looking good so far! I love the fabrics you've chosen. Stacked Coins is on my "some day" list...LOL

Patched 02-18-2011 08:55 AM

You did a splendid job of picking your fabrics, sometimes that is the hardest part for me. Maybe that's why I like scrap quilts so much, you can put anything together. You are doing a terrific job. Keep up the good work and keep posting your progress. At least you are getting started, mine are all still in the planning stage.

charismah 02-18-2011 08:55 AM

I love your colors! You are doing great! Small steps..it isn't a race! I am here for you!

redvette54 02-18-2011 08:56 AM

dreamer2009 02-18-2011 08:56 AM

Love all the encouragement...
makes a world of difference.
Todays job will be to sort them into the order they will be sewed.
Thank Everyone...Hugs

Dreamer:
Don't allow yourself to get frustrated. Those of us who've quilted for years make mistakes. We just call them "scraps"
and use them in something else.
The mental and manual skills required for quilting are wonderful therapy for you. Keep on keeping on! I'll pray for you.

bailey 02-18-2011 08:58 AM

Can't wait to see your quilt. The fabrics are beautiful. You picked my favorite colors. LOL

PaperPrincess 02-18-2011 08:59 AM

Great start. BTW, you did NOT 'RUIN' 5 squares, you have just started your first scrap quilt! Save all those oopsies and cut offs. As you progress, you will find uses for them! Can't wait to see your next post.

dreamer2009 02-18-2011 09:13 AM

LETIA 02-18-2011 09:14 AM

I love your fabric selection. I think it is going to be a beautiful quilt....

BizzieLizzie 02-18-2011 09:17 AM

Love the fabrics you have chosen. I understand the tremendous amount of effort involved in this which many take for granted; I am no exception. You have taken the BIGGEST step forwards and that is, the decision to start! Well done! It can only get better. I'm rooting for you! Go with it and don't look back! Can't wait to see your finished quilt. Best wishes, BizzieLizzie

wildyard 02-18-2011 09:23 AM

I just realized why your fabrics are so wonderful looking together. They look like Neopolitan ice cream!! They look yummy delicious!!!

Beginner64 02-18-2011 09:33 AM

See, your doing just fine! I love your choice of color in your fabrics. Just take it one step at a time and I'm glad to see that one set back didn't stop you from continuing on. Once you finish all your cutting of the blocks the fun part of piecing them all together begins. Can't wait to see more of your progress. Don't forget if you get into a jam or just need some encouragement everyone on this board is more than willing to help you out.

Sandi19 02-18-2011 09:37 AM

You CAN do this. Don't give up. One suggestion, put on a glove. I use a simple cotton gardening glove on my left hand. If I nick myself it will be very minor. You might not be so afraid of the rotary cutter if you know you won't injure yourself.
Keep going...we're all encourging you to do this.

available at joanne'sor probably any lqs. well worth the money....imho
