One of my co-workers is on a bowling league and won a door prize on Saturday. He said he took a lot of razzing from the other guys because he won the "Quilting Basket". I am the only quilter he knows.
Jackpot for me! Inside the cute basket I found 2 magazines, 2 patterns, assorted notions, 18 pieces of fabric that I thought were fat quarters. When I took it all apart, I discovered they are 1/2 yard or more each. I let his daughter have all the candy! I kept the good stuff! Any ideas on how to "pay him back"? He said he doesn't want anything quilted  |
Woohoo, that's some Jack pot. I Cant tell you how to pay him back though.
That is the jackpot! Hope you played the lottery!
I'd buy him a gift certificate to the bowling alley.
Or a gift certificate to a nice restaurant... Congratulations on your "perfect Score" |
Speaking of "lottery", how about getting him some lottery tickets? It was really nice of him to give the stuff to you. :D
I like the lottery ticket idea, too. A nice gesture, but not too "familiar". I'd say about $20 and a good luck would be do it.
Does he barbecue? Get him a couple of steaks or a gift certificate to a butcher shop.
Maybe you could bake some cookies or treats for him to take bowling. Those other guys won't laugh at him any more.
how nice of him to give that to you.. very nice. Maye treat him to a pizza while he is bowling some time. Have it delivered??
Nice stuff - for you!
I think "thank you" would be adequate - - - or do a "pay it forward" |
I like this idea. Have fun with your jackpot and let us see what you do with it.
Was this a men's league or mixed? Kind of makes you wonder whose idea it was to have a quilter's basket. |
Wow- how awesome!!
Gift cards are always nice. Half-yards?? Double WOW :D Have fun with everything!! |
That was really nice of him. I like the idea of something to eat, steaks for grilling, pizza durring bowling some homemade cookies.....
Like the 'lottery tickets', a case of beer (if he drinks it), pay it forward and let him know.
$20 worth would be okay - after all - it was HIS TREAT TO YOU. |
$20 is a good amount...gift cert to a restaurant, or if he enjoys another sport, cert to Dick's Sporting goods...

thats really awesome!
Make him some food and take it to work. He will appreciate it!
Oh 2 Doods, I really think a quilted bag for his bowling ball would be quite appropriate, don't you? LOL! Seriously though, how cool of a gift is that!?! Kind of makes you want to think about taking up bowling, huh? Congrats to you on this great surprise. :D
I agree with the person who said a nice batch of some home made goodies. Nothing too personal about that, and he can share it with his family. Make a "big" batch.
If you give him something that's too pricey it would be just the same as buying the basket from him, and I'm sure that wasn't his intention. What a fun thing to have happen! |
beer
Nice prize. I agree with giving him a gift certificate.
Does he read? In my family, we all love gift certificates to Barnes and Noble.
You did hit the jack pot. How about buying his lunch one day
way cool!
Looks like you scored a 300 game. I like the idea to make some type of food treats for sharing on their bowling night....That way, if the other guys on his league win a quilter's basket later on, you have a better chance of getting that one too. Just my way of thinking.

What a sweet gesture to give it to you
Something small I would think, you don't want to embarrass him , anymore than the guys at bowling already have  |
Does he garden? A pack of seeds for each piece of fabric he gave you?
I like the lottery ticket idea, too.
Make a quilt for a nursing home, a children's home or a charity raffle with part of the fabric and donate it in his name. Give him a picture of it with a plate of cookies.
Pickles, relish, wine, beer....all good stuff for guys, maybe homemade chilli sauce (if he likes the hot stuff).
There's a certain graciousness in simply saying "thank you". He said he doesn't want anything, and what material item can possibly equal the happiness he has given you?
If you must, watch for one day, when you can surprise him with something. Not necessary with a dollar value attached. |
Wow! Great jackpot! Buy him a beer! LOL, No really, I agree with the gift certificate for the bowling alley.
I'll say it was your lucky day, I think a gift certificate for
some bowling would be wonderful. |
Just pay him back with a thank you!! Not everybody looks for something back when they give something :)
WOW What a Nice Guy!!! I would give him lottery tickets too!
Aw, what a nice guy! Around her, LOL, WI, we'd get him some beer, or if he doesnt drink, a case of pop~
WOW!!!!
What a wonderful jackpot!
He was very sweet to think of you. I agree that sometimes less is more. A simple thank you note will suffice. If you really feel you need to do something, make him a homemade meal; lasagna, meatballs, chili, chicken and dumplings, and add the extras: salad, veggies, iced tea, etc. and of course a nice home made dessert. Deliver it in a basket. Nice way to say thank you for thinking of me. |
