Here is a baby quilt top I finished this afternoon.
OK -- how the heck do I quilt it? My machine quilting is limited to stitch in the ditch. If I hand quilt it, would it look okay to do it in a cross hatch design? I have some lighter blue hand quilting thread. The backing will be the green color. HELP PLEASE! Should I just say the heck with it and send it to the long armer? |
Joyce,
Why don't you STID where ever you can, and then hand quilt some kitty paw prints in the other areas, if you don't want to Free motion. Even if you only put a paw print in each corner between the blocks, it would look cute. Just an idea. |
I would machine stitch in the ditch! It is a cute quilt. Keep it simple!

i agree with SITD. you don't want a lot of quilting on this since its going to be used for sleeping.

What color thread? |
a shade of blue that will blend with the fabric.
|
Joyce,
I love your quilt. It is adorable. Blue Bell |
yes, it is so cute. it was rude of me not to mention that.
and fyi - your cat is just stunning. |
Joyce, I have to agree with the SID. That was my first thought (and I am SUCH an expert! ) I really love the quilt! Was it a panel that you cut apart did you fussy cut? Looks like your inspector was doing a mighty fine job of looking at your stitching -- did you ask him/her how to finish it?

This is, so far, the only thing I have pre-washed that I've regretted. The panel raveled so badly that I completely lost one picture. And two are really close -- provided that I wanted to get that black/white strip in there -- which I did in the quilt. But I guess the other two blocks/pictures can be used for a baby pillow... Emile just sniffed at it while I had it on the floor and then resumed his position -- sleeping on one of my clear fabric storage bins   |
Cute kids quilt!!! I would SID too...easy and will look very nice with the blue thread suggestion :D :D :D
|
Cute quilt. I love the fabric. I would stitch in the ditch.
|
Yep - cute quilt and it's a perfect candidate for SID.
|
I too love this fabric.. Your quilt came out beautiful. As far as quilting... I'd go with whatever you feel more comfortable with..
|
Oh, that is so cute!!

I agree with the rest of the suggestions except for one......
SEND IT TO ME WHEN IT"S DONE! :) |
Sorry kiddo, I'm not help in the HELP department as I tie all my blankets, but I sure do love your quilt.
I'm sure whatever you do, it'll be puuurrr-fect  |
Very nice! I love that kitty print & it seems that Emile approves as well
Yes, I agree with SID for the quilting too. |
Maybe sew the ends before washing fabric next time? I think the extra step saves me fabric in the long run. Some fabrics don't ravel at all - how do they do that? - and others have raveled a lot for me - especially when the end was sort of biasy.
I know it's an extra step, but it sure minimizes raveling and those strings and tangles. Ask me how I know this :-| It's a cute quilt. How is cat doing now? |

He was racing around the house this morning liked a crazy thing. He does that every morning for about 10 minutes and I call it his exercise period. Then he pretty much sleeps the rest of the day if he's not following me around -- what a life!  |
Really cute quilt!! I love that kitty fabric!! I'd vote for SID too! :D
|
I just finished a quilt top with an animal pattern similiar to yours. I thought of doing SITD also. I wonder if just stitching around each panel is enough? Will the stitching be too far apart then?
|
How about using a varigated blue green to do the quilting on the top . It works for sitd and hand quilting. You can then use what ever matches on the bottom.Have a great time with the baby quilt it is just so cute :D
