My oldest daughter is a log cabin fan. Her house burned to the ground last March. I'd like to get her a log cabin book for Christmas. Is Nancy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book my best choice? My only experience with a log cabin is a hand sewn quilt as you go that I never finished, so I'm not overly familar with the pattern. I do like the ones set diagonally. Here's a sample of her work. She will work with tiny strips that I don't have the patience for. She also sews straighter than I do. This wallhanging is at least 16 years old, but I still like. I added the bows and the star.

I love this wallhanging, so pretty. I can't give any advise on the book. Merry Christmas.

Beautiful. There are a lot of books available. I would go to Amazon and google Log Cabin Books. Quite often you will be able to look at sample pages and the table of contents, which I really like.

I can't recommend more highly any book written by Judy Martin.( no offense to Nancy)
Judy's books are a bit more on the intermediate side and time intensive. They are worth it!

Here's my favorite:

By the way, the quilt in my avatar is Judy Martin log cabin.(not from the above book though).

Thank you for the recommendation, ladyjanedoe. That's what I needed - to talk to another log cabin fan. I'll check Horizon when I go downtown, if the book isn't there or price isn't right, then Amazon it is.

K does very nice work and intermediate will be fine for her. I like the fact that this book will expands her horizons a bit. She's somewhat of a traditionist, unlike her mother.

I'm not sure what happened to my attachment, as I was saying I second Ladyjane's suggestion. I have the same book she suggested and it has a lot of different ways to do the logs. I love it.
And also, wanted to say your daughter's work is beautiful!! Sorry to hear about her house, that must be a terrible thing to get over...losing all your memories.
