this is my last christmas quilt. my granddaughter requested purple and black. not much contrast but i hope she'll like it.
we are getting ready for a big snow storm in southwest missouri. maybe we'll have a white christmas. probably be melted by then. |
Oh, it's really pretty. I love the purples and blacks. Very striking! :D
|
are the stars out tonight?
i can't tell if it's cloudy or bright. 'cause i only have eyes for ... your quilt. :P |
WOW - that is an awesome quilt. Love the colors. Love the stars. She is gonna LOVE it!! Great job!
|
I simply love this quilt! I am so jealous of you all! Seems like everyone whips these off like they are nothing and I am struggling to get my first quilt done....lol. I hope to grow up and be like everyone on here! :D
|
It's gorgeous! In my beginners opinion, there is enough contrast. You're granddaughter is sure to love it!
newquiltertoni, I'm sure you'll get faster with the practice - - at least that's what I tell myself! |
That is a beautiful pattern...
|
WOW!! That is gorgeous!! I'd love to make one someday. You're awesome. :D
|
I have to know--just how much harder is it to make the log cabins with stars--vs one without???
|
This is beautiful!! I love it. Kyia
|
thank you, you are so witty.
|
thank you all for the kind words.
barnbum, this pattern was the very first quilt i ever made. i took a class at a quilt shop and i made this in a twin size. we followed eleanor burns book and the teacher gave us a few short cut tips. the best tip she gave us was to use an ANGLER to sew the star points instead of having to draw a diagonal line on each 2 inch square you just line up the corners with the grid of the angler and sew straight across. very much quicker than having to draw those lines. since then i have made several log cabins and this is the third one i have make with the stars. it isn't harder just more time consuming. |
Its really beautiful. The stars actually twinkle!
Great job. Helen |
I love the stars in it.
nanabirdmo, what ia an Angler? |
Sooo pretty!! and in my favorite colors too!

i STILL struggle to get each one done! I always make at least 3 boneheaded mistakes during each project. I usually waste at least one yard of fabric and have a few blocks left because (a) they came out too wrong to fix; and/or (b) i lost them (i think the dogs hide them because they're jealous of my sewing machine  ) and I never find them until i'd made replacements. MY quilting tool kit includes two sizes of seam rippers and a pair of tweezers for pulling the little bits of thread. i decided a long time ago to accept that mistakes - for me anyway - are inevitable. I try to turn them to my advantage. I always learn something new (or am reminded of something important i forgot). someday, they will each be a chapter in a book. i'll bet it sells like hotcakes!!! |
Whoa!!!! I see major hugs and kisses on this quilt!!! Absolutely beautiful pattern and colors. Thank you for sharing and inspiring us all :)

The Angler is without a doubt, the best invention. I have the Angler 2 and it allows you to make flying geese, square in a square, anything involving diagonal seams, and by using it, you don't have to draw a line. I get perfect results everytime. See the link:
http://www.pambonodesigns.com/SuperStore/SuperStore-Product.asp?ProductID=1084 I got mine at Joanns and with a coupon, it was only a couple of dollars. You can also use it and your regular presser foot and get great 1/4" seams. Helen Nanabirdmo, I didn't mean to step on your toes, I'm just really enthusiastic with this tool and the time it saves. |
ripstitch, that is quite all right, you didn't step on any toes here. i, too love this product. it saves me many many hours of labor. and thanks for the link. i would encourage everyone to try it. i have just about worn mine out
|
patrice, i thought i was the only quilter who made boneheaded mistakes. it seems like i will be going along smooth as silk and suddenly realize i have sewn something completely bassackwards. my seam ripper is the tool i love to hate. what would i do without it. wish i didn't need it, but i always will. with every project. any new quilter who gets discouraged should peruse this board and you will realize we all tend to make silly, dumb, thoughtless, and boneheaded mistakes from time to time. (and not just in quilting  ) don't give up. just un-sew and plunge ahead. wish it was as easy to unsew parts of my life and start over 8) compared to real life, quilting is easy  |
One happy grandaughter, if she isn't i know someone down south who loves it.

That quilt is so pretty.... and the colours work well... yes, the stars are twinkling.... I love it....

I very much like this version of the log cabin - think the stars add so much to the quilt. Love the quilt
|

|
I don't know how I missed this post. It sure is pretty!
|
I think it is a beautiful quilt also!!!
|
Those stars really twinkle in that quilt. They look like they're made from some kind of shiny material. Fabulous. Another impressed looker :) :)

Love the colours, gorgeous quilt! Sometimes it's nice when someone requests a certain colour combo that we maybe wouldn't chose ourselves! Makes us think outside the box!
