Beautiful quilt! I love Sun Bonnet Sues, but then I love all the traditional patterns! Glad it found a good home, and will be loved and cared for.

Bar the very unlikely option that we are being inclusive of amputees and others without limbs, the only message I can take from no arms is that she is powerless. I am just getting past issues of being freaked out about never seeing her face (upside is it could after all allow any of us to imagine its a picture of us). But honestly- it's hard not to be disturbed by no hands, especially for those who work with their hands.

You could appliqué her some new hands and let her get busy!

Honestly, I never really thought of all of this as an issue. I consider it simplicity of design (much as stick figures in drawing, etc) Also, my grandmother ALWAYS wore a sunbonnet. I rarely saw her without one. And her face wasn't visible when she walked out in the yard ( unless I stood right in front of her). As far as the hands are concerned, I actually never noticed SS with two arms. I've only seen just the one, assuming there was another one on the other side.

I was a first grade teacher and some of their art left A LOT to the imagination. Anyone wishing to know more about this design can google Sunbonnet Sue and Sam. There are several free printable patterns from different eras. It's interesting to see the different designs.

this SS quilt is gorgeous. I love the quilting that was done. You really hit the jackpot with this one. Congratulations.

Never really noticed about the hands. This quilt is adorable.

I'm betting the person just left appliqueing all those tiny little pieces for last and just couldn't face doing it.

Interesting reading article: http://barbarabrackman.blogspot.ca/2...ue-wrecks.html

After reading the posts I clicked on the link to the sunbonnet sue history & my AVG said there was a virus on the sunbonnet sue pages, so don't go there unless your anti virus is up-to-date! It may just be my computer.
