it looked easy

2 Attachment(s)
but its the worst quilt I've made.its about my 5th quilt . the blocks came out crooked and mis-sizedand my points don't match. i started out on curves and my blocks came out
nice and even and my points match..maybe someone else
has tried this pattern and can tell me if it worked for them.
Trade Winds for Bali Pops. First time I used jelly rolls and of course I failed to pick a contrasty enough fabric for the triangle.

virtualbernie 09-12-2011 04:25 PM

I like it!

grayma 09-12-2011 04:26 PM

I think it is very pretty in a scrappy kinda way!

erstan947 09-12-2011 04:27 PM

Looks great from My house:) Love the fabrics. Give yourself a break.....It's beautiful!

Jennifer22206 09-12-2011 04:27 PM

I like it too.

As for your points not matching - I don't see it. Stand back about 10 feet - if you can't see the points that don't match, they don't exist. :)

sweetana3 09-12-2011 04:27 PM

It has a wonderful watercolor look to it and softly spins. My eye wandered over it and liked the feel it has.

CoriAmD 09-12-2011 04:28 PM

I think you are being too hard on yourself - it is beautiful!!!!

blueangel 09-12-2011 04:34 PM

Looks good to me.

quilting.addict 09-12-2011 04:36 PM

You are too close to the subject!! Keep it or give it to someone who knows nothing about quilting...and they will adore it!!!

katier825 09-12-2011 04:38 PM

I think it looks great! The things that are bothering you are really not very noticeable. We're always more critical of our own work.

Just an FYI - Bali Pops (any brand really) are not always cut exactly at 2-1/2"...that may be one reason you had difficulty. Another tip is to use spray starch on anything that will end up with bias edges once you start cutting.

MsMel 09-12-2011 04:39 PM

I think it looks great!!!

Irene Frohreich 09-12-2011 04:40 PM

It is a very bright and pretty quilt, where are the mistakes I don't see any, keep going, it's great.

sewgull 09-12-2011 04:41 PM

Looks fine to me.

SnowQuilt 09-12-2011 04:42 PM

TiltedEars 09-12-2011 04:43 PM

I think you need to stop worrying & just enjoy it!

joyce blint 09-12-2011 04:44 PM

And it's still very pretty.

GGinMcKinney 09-12-2011 04:50 PM

Pretty! Love the colors!

carolaug 09-12-2011 04:50 PM

I like it...needs a border...it really does look nice!!

irishrose 09-12-2011 04:57 PM

I like it a lot. It's probably the bias edges that caused your troubles. They get wonky so easily.

Looks good, I like it.
Pretty colors too; you did an awesome job.

cathyvv 09-12-2011 05:33 PM

I like it. Points matching - at one time I was obsessed with that, and therefore very discouraged. Then I saw a quilt on a quilting magazine cover where the points didn't match...and stopped worrying about it.

My thoughts exactly. Have to be so careful with bias work.

AlwaysQuilting 09-12-2011 05:43 PM

I agree with the others. I like it.

Buzzy Bee 09-12-2011 05:49 PM

when I read what you said about no contrast, and then scrolled down to photo #1,,,my thought was,,"you were right", but I loved the colors,,,,then I scrolled to photo #2 and WOW !!! all I could think was WOW....WOW....I love it..!!!! to me you didn 't need the contrast !!!! It's beautiful...

Painiacs 09-12-2011 05:51 PM

Looks ok to me!! Little busy for me but nice!!

jljack 09-12-2011 05:55 PM

First thing I notice is that it's the pieces cut on bias that seem to not line up. When you have bias pieces you have to be very careful not to stretch the piece. I think that may have been the issue here.

But overall it's a wonderful quilt...and I think it all sort of blending is fine.

Consider it a learning experience and go on with the new skills. I remember some of my early quilts!! Oh My!! But I kept going and learned as I went. It's a process every new quilter goes through.

patricialc 09-12-2011 06:33 PM

i'm with the rest.. :) i like it. when I tell a friend of mine how good she is .. she points out the "flaws" I told her if you have to point it out YOU ARE GOOD! enjoy your quilt! :):):)

Mamatron 09-12-2011 06:38 PM

I like it too. maybe a little bit more contrast would have made the pinwheels "pop" but i like it as is. i was gonna say you can send it to me but somone beat me to the punch. I have had that pattern planned as my next but now I am a little intimidated about the whole bias thing. Which bali pop is that?

Cosy 09-12-2011 06:40 PM

I think it's beautiful.

Phannie1 09-12-2011 06:43 PM

I read your statement but I think it is really neat. I like the way the colors play with the patterns. I did not see missed points. I did not see any quilt police standing by.

nativetexan 09-12-2011 07:02 PM

someone else posted a pic of a Trade Winds quilt recently.
try pressing your seams open too. that might help.
