Maze Baby Quilt

This is actually brighter and prettier in real life, but I am taking a picture in my darkened sewing room, before the sun rises, so I can get it washed and dried before my son goes to school. He wants to give it to his high school English teacher today. He and his wife are expecting their first child.

As you can see it is made from scraps, including the white fabrics.

it's a very pretty quilt

DebraK 05-10-2013 05:37 AM

Thank you. I was surprised when my son asked me for the quilt. I was glad I had something ready to go.

dcquilter 05-10-2013 05:41 AM

What a fun quilt!

Judith1005 05-10-2013 05:41 AM

It is adorable. I love that it is not gender specific. But the real treasure is that your son cannot wait to gift it. (Boys so rarely find this exciting.) And you are such a good mom to make this baby gem. I love the pattern. Can you share the name and or pattern designer or did you make it up?

DebraK 05-10-2013 05:49 AM

I wish I could say I made it up ;-) I googled maze quilts, and saw one that I liked at creativegirl.com. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I used her idea.

azwendyg 05-10-2013 05:51 AM

What a beautiful cozy baby quilt--I'm sure they'll just love it! Really nice design for using scrappy fabrics too.

DebraK 05-10-2013 05:55 AM

This was a fun one to piece. Like doing a puzzle.

Murphy1 05-10-2013 05:59 AM

I love your quilt and can imagine them thinking fondly of your son as they enjoy wrapping their baby. What a special son you have.

Diane007 05-10-2013 06:06 AM

what an excellent idea

MaryMo 05-10-2013 06:24 AM

fascinating quilt! Perfect for a growing baby .... a child playing on it with cars, driving the maze, in the future.

Tweety2911 05-10-2013 06:25 AM

Beautiful baby quilt. Love the colors and the pattern! How thoughtful of your son to ask you to make this quilt for his HS English teacher. He obviously is proud of your work!

thimblebug6000 05-10-2013 06:58 AM

Love it! Great job.

nature lover 05-10-2013 08:08 AM

I really like your quilt. The pattern, colors, and the quilting are a wonderful combination. What size squares are used? I will have to put this one on my "to do" list. Thanks for sharing!!

DebraK 05-10-2013 08:13 AM

Thank you, I used 2.5" squares and border.

PaperPrincess 05-10-2013 08:32 AM

alikat110 05-10-2013 05:15 PM

Really great job.....

ArtsyOne 05-10-2013 05:33 PM

This is a quilt that really has a long life ahead of it - like a previous poster said, it can be used for playing cars and the colors are great for either a boy or girl and it's not age-specific. Very nice job!

cathyvv 05-10-2013 05:43 PM

Very unique, colorful and fun. I'm sure his teacher will love it!

DebraK 05-10-2013 05:56 PM

The teacher was touched by the gift. My son is so funny, "He wanted to hug me, Mom!" in his most mortified voice ;-)

Grandma Peg 05-10-2013 06:11 PM

Your quilt is very nice. It is going to go on my to do list.

Daylesewblessed 05-10-2013 06:34 PM

DebraK,

Did you piece in rows or make 4 patches and build on them? You certainly did a nice job!

nls 05-10-2013 06:50 PM

Very cute--great idea!

DebraK 05-10-2013 06:52 PM

Thank you! I wasn't very organized. I drew the quilt on graph paper, then started putting the colored squares on the wall. The white pieces range in length. I built the quilt in sections, cutting as I went along. It was like doing a puzzle. I took my time and had lots of fun with it.

twinkie 05-11-2013 03:08 AM

That is really nice. I know they will love it.

carolaug 05-11-2013 03:26 AM

I was thinking the same thing...this is so cool...I may make one with gray instead of white. Also thinking making a farm theme...brown maze - animal trails.

I agree with you - pictures really don't do our quilts justice. Your quilt looks great - I bet it's just gorgeous in person. Thanks for sharing!!

Julie in NM 05-11-2013 03:59 AM

I've made so many puzzle baby quilts. Now think I'l do this pattern instead. Found your "inspiration" on the web. Tu for posting.

BuzzinBumble 05-11-2013 04:07 AM

What a wonderful baby quilt - I adore scrappy quilts! The pattern will be a great imagination builder as the baby gets older. How awesome it is that your son is so eager to give it as a gift!

southernmema 05-11-2013 04:09 AM

What a novel quilt! It is truly a gift from the heart - yours and your son's.
