MaryAnn sent this quilt to us for LAQ.

YOu may remember the waves and bubbles being her other one?

Anyway...MaryAnn bought these vintage bark cloth drapes after going on a trip to the Grand Canyon with her sister. I think this is such a great way to create a souvenir don't you?

Anyway Sally was kind of going to do a navaho theme and then changed it up a bit and went with the designs that were actually in the fabric. The geometric lines, and the cactus type leaves...Mixing it all up and making them play nice together. I love the final finish. Beautiful!

Sally quilted this on her 26 INNOVA and we used Hobbs poly down batting.

Thanks for looking.

This piece of bark cloth was made in the 1940's and is a vintage piece of fabric. Barkcloth is a soft, thick, slightly textured fabric, like the bark of a tree. It was origionaly made with the bark of ficus trees but I'm pretty sure this is made from densly woven cotton.

I had to wash the curtain 4 times to get all the nicotine out of the fabric. It was the color of dark coffee the first three times I washed it! It was yuck but I knew I couldn't use the fabric like that.
