Just wanted to share these that I don't think I shared before. I make miniature quilts and donate them to Alzheimers research through the Alzheimers Art Quilt Initiative.

I'm working on fulfilling my $1,000 promise to them. What that means (for those of you who don't know) is that I have pledged to make enough miniature quilts, all 9x12 or smaller, until I have sold at least $1,000 worth. So far, my total is a bit less than $200, but that's ok! I have 5 more ready to be sent off for donation.

Pink and Purple Maze 9x12 inches

What a wonderful, yet lofty goal. My mother had Alzheimers when she passed away in November, so I know the devastation it does. Thank you on behalf of the many patients who can't say it themselves. It's because of initiatives like this that we have research and medicines for patients. I'll have to join you in making small quilts in mom's memory for AAQI. This is just the push I need to get started.

Your quilts are great. I love the talking heads one. What a great goal! This disease is hitting so many families as they watch their loved ones fade away.
Last year some of the doll quilt swappers as a group participated in a donation, and the quilts went to Houston for the quilt show. I hope to send quilts again (I did 2)this year. Here's a thread I started about them.

Jennifer22206 01-12-2011 06:13 AM

thanks so much for your comments! Some of them were the first ones I've ever made.

I'm just glad that I can help out a worthy cause! And use up my scrap fabrics in the process!

Beautiful! You are very talented!!

SaraSewing 01-29-2011 08:28 PM

I'd like to make some, but I really don't understand the registration process. Why can't I just make a cute little piece and just donate it. I don't want glory or recognition.

wolfkitty 01-29-2011 08:39 PM

How marvelous! And for a great cause! Wonderful!

I'm pretty sure that its because they're a non profit and everything gets disclosed. You can take the donation off your taxes if you're so inclined.

I can email Ami and ask if they will take anonymous donations but I don't think so. Maybe she can do something if a gruop or guild would like to donate where individuals aren't named specifically .. not sure though.

Nice work--I especially like the beach one, very simple and lovely.

I love them all, great work!!!

adnil458 01-20-2012 06:50 AM

Love this project and your quilts....anyone can join the Quilt A Month & $1000 Promise (I am halfway there after sales at Houston). On my 12th month of making these minis. They are great to practice all quilting skills on a small level, similar to making a mug rug, only takes a couple hours to make one.

almond 01-20-2012 09:13 AM
