:D

I'm trying to use up some fabric from past projects---waaaay past projects. I wanted to make fun things for babies about 36" square. Plus I can practice quilting them. When I made my Talk-About-Quilts, I included some of these fabrics for "story-telling" squares. The varied log cabins were for color identification. If I were the mom of a baby looking at this I'd talk all about the animals and colors and try to figure out what they could be thinking....and we'd walk our fingers from square to square, first looking for similar colors, then animals. And we'd hunt up matching pieces..... (I'm a bit over the edge... I took my teaching out on my kids--they could do the Kindergarten report card at age 2 and could read at 3.5. )

At first I had a log cabin every other square, but that was a bit much, even for me!

The backs would be large fun stuff--just one piece--but big bears, or cats...or flannel. I already have it all!

I'd give one to my grandkids--if I had any. :D

Or am I crazy?

Or will it make a kid crazy?

Or should I sew them up and see what happens?

Or should I use all the log cabin squares alone?

And the quilters said....

Wow. Thanks!! I had no idea what you would say--so I'm happy to read what's here so far. :D

If I go ahead with it--I'll make one border all the same color. That should help tone it down a little.

My right brain sure is screaming in this one.

My personal taste is that they are a bit busy. I would love to see one with just the log cabin, then the border with all colors in it.

I like it!

I did an I Spy quilt for my grandson to keep at my house (he already had 3 I made for his house :) ) that I alternated 4-block patches with novelty squares. He loves looking at all the stuff on it. He likes to cuddle with it and a book and "read". He's 2 1/2 now, but he's had his quilt here for almost a year. I say sew them up and pack them away for future grandbabies. I think they are cute, cute, cute!

justme--I made one of those before--the squares were a bit different.

Here it is....

I have 72 log cabin squares left.... I can make 4 of these if I whip up just 8 more--I'd make them all blue.

Barnbum....... thank you for sharing your pics with me. I like that one alot. The colors are bright, perfect for a baby! i guess it just goes to show us all, personal prefernce. The most challenging thing I have encountered with quilting is thinking outside of the box, and just going for it!
thanks once again for posting your pictures!

If anyone noticed--I did leave one two block set as a long rectangle--and if it's too busy, I could always sew two blocks the same here and there....

I need to stop thinking about it and move onto something else.

I have no lesson plans this weekend because I have a student teacher who is doing the work for now--and I have so much energy and my brain won't quit! I should crash soon....
