My DH and I went to the quilt show today and saw lots of fantastic quilts and there were alot of interesting ideas represented!!

I hoped to run into Don - Isewman but missed him. I hope you don't mind Don that I post pics of your show here. Don belongs to the Quilt Guild that presented the show.

Here are the ones that impressed me. I noticed the quilting more than I ever did before. I am not good at the hand or machine quilting down part. But after being exposed to all the conversations about it on here I was more aware of it instead of dismissing it and looking beyond it.

I felt I looked at these with a better perspective from all I have leaned on here of areas that I was not familiar with before the board. Now I looked at these techniques with a new understanding.

So enjoy all the beauty!!

This is one of the quilting techniques I mentioned above

This one is one of Don's there was another but I never found it sorry Don!

This one is interesting as it is not a complicated quilt but never the less an interesting look! The fabric chosen gives it the fascination factor. It would be a good beginner quilt.

This one I liked as it is a variation on the Drunkard's path

Thanks for posting all these. I loved Don's quilt the best!!! I was looking at it before I read about it being Don's. I was thinking I really liked it & that I should make a cool quilt like that with barns or houses & trees! Very nice!!!

Rhonda 03-19-2010 09:57 PM

This is probably a third of all the displays!

When we were in the show I was taking pics of anything I thought was worth the interest. ( they all were fabulous but I didn't want to take the time to take all of them) and when I passed one Glen thought I should take a pic of he would let me know!! He told me he likes to look at pretty things too! LOL

But the funny thing was when we got in the car. He looked at me and said You know I was noticing all the tips and twicks in there! He thought it was funny he could pick them out. I said well you have really been learning haven't you! BTW WHAT IS A TWICK?? He says it's half a twist and half a tuck!!!! Like the quilt piece we were talking about this morning!!! So we have a new quilt word!!! A TWICK is when a fabric gets twisted and tucked up where it shouldn't be!!!
Tips are his version of "points" So watch out for your Tips and Twicks!! LOL

Thank you for going to all the trouble to post so many pictures. The quilts are wonderful.

Katrine 03-19-2010 11:13 PM

Thank you Rhonda for posting this. We don't get anything like that here so it's a real treat to have such a virtual tour of a Show. Beautiful quilts - I've been back over them at least three times already.
And I will definitely watch my twicks now!! what a great word.

n2scraplvr 03-19-2010 11:40 PM

earthwalker 03-20-2010 01:14 AM

Really appreciate you taking the time and effort to post your pics. Some absolutely beautiful designs, it really gives us so much inspiration to look at a wide variety of work. I will be extra careful of tips and twicks. Thanks again.

butterjoy 03-20-2010 03:38 AM

So many ideas and patterns. I learn something every day! I would love to make the hummingbird and wonder how the person made it? :)

mamatobugboo 03-20-2010 05:17 AM

that is great - thanks for sharing. I LOVE the carpet!!

Oklahoma Suzie 03-20-2010 05:54 AM

Thanks so much for sharing these with us.

charmpacksplus 03-20-2010 08:31 AM

Thanks for the tour! Those are some wonderful quilts. I must say I did a double-take on the carpet photo. LOL

Rhonda 03-20-2010 09:07 AM

glad you all enjoy it!! I wasn't sure how many photos I could put on my card so I was being a bit choosy as to what I took. I could have taken 3 times more but I also knew I couldn't put all of them on the board. so these are the ones that struck me as the most interesting. I would have liked to have gotten Don's second one but the guild member who was helping me by pointing them out couldn't remember where it was and I never did find the tag so not sure which one it was.

joeyoz 03-20-2010 09:29 AM

Oh my. Virtual quilt shows are just as much fun as the real thing. Thank you so much for sharing. :D :D :D

Martina 03-20-2010 09:55 AM

Thanks for bringing this beautiful quilt show to us. I enjoyed it very much!

Rhonda 03-20-2010 10:23 AM

You're welcome!! I enjoy the sharing too!! I kind of felt like I really didn't take time to look closely too much as I was concious of Glen's needs and his being able to get through the aisles. So when I got home it was fun to see the pics and look more closely at some that I hadn't paid a lot of attention to aside from getting a good shot. there were soooo many!! You felt like you were in another world!! A Quilt World!! It was so well set up and displayed!! I heard one lady talking to her friend(mother maybe?) and they were taking home ideas on display for their quilt shop!! It was very inspiring and I am so impressed with the talent in this quilt guild!!!!

Jim's Gem 03-20-2010 10:24 AM

Thanks for all the pictures Rhonda!! Enjoy seeing the quilts!

Rhonda 03-20-2010 10:36 AM

If anyone has any questions about anything you see here you could ask Don he might be able to find out for you. It is his guild.

craftybear 03-20-2010 10:42 AM

Thanks for the online show and tell, was wonderful!

Harmony 03-20-2010 10:54 AM

Wow, there's plenty of talent in Iowa!!!! Thanks for sharing these!

Sheila Elaine 03-20-2010 05:41 PM

Rhonda, thanks so much for giving us this guided tour of such a unique assortment of quilts, no two remotely alike. You have great taste when it comes to quilts.

My favorites are the 2 or 3 Sampler Quilts. I hand quilted one in the late 70s, which got ruined along our travels. I want to make another one this year & those give me a lot of renewed inspiration. Flowers, stars & birds are such great themes. Also, the blue one with the white long-arm designs - I can only dream of a set-up like that.

Tell Glen thanks for his input with the tips & twicks. I'll be looking for his comments & tell him he has great taste in his Wife & quilts. Both of you'll are keepers.

chris_quilts 03-20-2010 05:51 PM

Thank you Rhonda for sharing the quilt show with us. All of them are beautiful and the carpet wasn't bad either.

Gramof6 03-20-2010 09:57 PM

Rhonda it was very sweet of you to share your time @ the Quilt Show with us. Thank You for that. I go to Houston every Fall for the big Show so that just whetted my appetite. LOL And thanks for the new word "twicks." I like that! And it fits so perfect.LOL The Quilts were all just fantastic! A lot of talent there for sure. I honestly could not choose a favorite.

BrendaB 03-20-2010 10:23 PM

Rhonda, thank you so much for posting the pictures. I was disappointed that I didn't get to go. Thanks to your kindness, I got to see the quilts anyway. You are the best! Thank you again. :-)

Donna P 03-21-2010 03:00 AM

All I can say is ...............WOW!!!!!

Rhonda 03-21-2010 07:25 AM

You're welcome everyone! I sometimes look at people's posting of quilt shows and they show down a whole row of quilts and I so want to see each one up close.so I had that in mind when I went. And some I wanted to see the closeups. I had you all in mind when I took the pics. I am so much more aware of details like the FMQ designs than I ever was before. I wouldn't have looked twice at the FMQ before because I can't do it but I have a better appreciation of it now thanks to you all.

I am so glad I could share this with you all. I got a new camera a few months ago and sometimes when I take a pic it comes out fuzzy. I think I don't wait for it to refocus. so I was trying really hard not to come home with out of focus pics!! I would have been so upset! The one with the orange stars is a bit out of focus but not too bad.

Hope you all get lots of good ideas from these people's hard work and talent!! And aren't they all talented!!!!

Sheila Elaine 03-21-2010 08:54 AM

To be good enough to enter the Quilt Show, folks have to have a degree in talent. Isn't it up to the quilter to decide on a pattern, fabric, threads, embellishments, paints, etc. Does anyone know the percentage of the Shows that have a themes?

dkabasketlady 03-29-2010 07:01 PM

Thank you for the wonderful quilt show, I feel like I was there with you!

Rhonda 03-29-2010 07:50 PM

You're welcome dkabasketlady! Glad you enjoyed it!

You're welcome Tigger I missed Don also so I guess I didn't connect with anyone as Wendy couldn't go either but I still enjoyed the show!! And it was the first one my DH went to also so that was fun. I'd only been to one other large quilt show before and that was a few years ago. I go to our local one but it is only about 30 or 40 quilts. Nothing like the bigger cities. But I enjoy all the quilts!! I have pics of past quilt shows here in Salem I did think about posting some of those. They are several years ago but looking at quilts isn't about being in the present time so maybe I will pull those out sometime soon and share.

Sheila Elaine 03-30-2010 11:21 AM

Rhonda, please do post those older guilt show photos when you have time. It is so inspiring (esp since I don't get out much) to see what others are doing. Thanks for all your time on these.
