My quilting friend nagged me to show you this project so here goes. Way back in the 70's I sold a liquid embroidery product. This was one of the projects that I painted. I did nothing with the blocks until 2004 when I decided to finally put it together. Got the top finished and then did not know much about quilting so decided to start stitching around each little figure. Another quilting friend told me that I was doing echo stitching. I did not know that but did know that it took me about a month to do each block. Then we moved to another state and I did not get back to it until 2007 when I finally finished it. I entered it in the local fair and won a blue ribbon. I gave it to my daughter as she was a small girl when I first painted the blocks. She told me she cuddled under it this winter which tickled my heart. I told her it was to use and not to keep on a shelf.

Lovely quilt....My Nan used to like to "paint" on fabric around that time...think it was called "Hobbytex", they used to have parties, bit like Tupperware.

Glad you finished it. It is too beautiful to be sitting unfinished some where.

It was Tri-Chem. It was a fun thing to do and I very much enjoyed the 4 years when I sold it.

Very pretty, and glad you finished it. You also did a good job painting the girls. I used to do the Tri-Chem painting, and not everything came out that good.

Bevanger 05-20-2010 07:02 AM

oooooo thats beautiful

Pam 05-20-2010 08:10 AM

I remember those pens! My aunt had every color and she very generouly shared with all of the teen nieces. I wonder what happened to the stuff I did.

The quilt is lovely and I am glad that it is being cherished.

Read earlier posts. :-) I painted it with Tri-Chem liquid embroidery paint way back around 1976. Yikes! That was a long, long, time ago!

littlehud 05-20-2010 06:51 PM

Wow, that is beautiful. You are quite and artist. I love the finished product. Great job and thanks for sharing.

RedGarnet222 05-20-2010 07:02 PM

Oops! Sorry... Thanks for the info!

judi_lynne 05-21-2010 06:08 AM

Beautiful! I made a crib sheet, a birth announcement, and a tablecloth back in the 70's using that Liquid Embroidery! I loved it! I gave my daughter (now 36!!) her crib sheet recently along with the wall hanging (birth announcement) AND I am still using the tablecloth!

Such memories! Great job!!!

Did you by any chance put the blocks through a printer & print extra fabric with the paintings on it. I'm sure you could sell this to a fabric manufacturer. It is gorgeous.

That thought never crossed my mind. Back when I began putting them together, I just barely had a computer and the thought never crossed my mind. I think there might be copyright issues though since the original girl patterns were from the Tri-Chem company. I certainly did not draw them out myself. I just recently learned how to put photos on my quilts though with the fabric w/paper backing that you run through the printer. I plan to try some quilt labels with that technique next week and will let you know how it turns out. But your suggestion to a fabric manufacturer makes me think that if any of them ever read these quilting blogs, they might dream up something similar and perhaps it would be a good seller. I know I really love the old fashioned paper doll prints on fabric that are popular now.

omak 05-21-2010 07:32 AM

LOVED Tri-chem, and by golly! You persevered and made a great quilt! Congratulations on the blue ribbon!<wave>
