Oh, I'm so happy. My DD has taken an old quilt top that I inherited from my grandmother and is quilting it!!! Here are the pics that she has sent me so far. She really didn't want me to post them, because she thought that we wouldn't think they were very good.

I think they look great!!! And it is so wonderful that this old quilt top didn't get discarded and will be turned into a useful quilt.

That's better hand quilting, than I can do. Hats off to your DD! :D :D

Yeah, I taught her that thimblelady's method from the start, and she is really good at it. Better than I am, as a matter of fact. Her stitches are more consistent than mine are.

Well, she is very, very good at the hand quilting, regardless of what method she uses!! You have a right to be PROUD!!

SharonC 08-13-2009 05:22 PM

Congrats on having your daughter take this quilt top and keep it alive by adding her personal touch. Beautiful hand-quilting...so glad you shared.

What a wonderful way to unite four generations! And I know your grandmother would be extremely proud of your daughter's perfect stitches!!

Her grandma would be so proud! :D

Her stitching looks great!
I was doing this same butterfly for my second B & Y block, but changed my mind as I have not done much machine quilting and didn't like the result. These look so good and very retro. Love it and what an heirloom.

I really have no idea how old the top is. I was out in West Texas visiting my aunt one day, and she kind of casually handed a couple of quilt tops to me and said, "These were in Grandma's stuff, and I figured you were the only one who might want them. I started to just give them to Goodwill, but then I thought of you."

So they almost got given away. I don't know any of the history behind them. The other one is a signature quilt, so I am hoping we can look up the people on the internet and at least find out what town we are talking about. The grandma who had them didn't do a lot of sewing, so they may have been gifts. I just don't know. Maybe people who can date fabrics could tell more about the date range.

I am a long time hand quilter, her work is beautiful.

Mousie 08-14-2009 03:15 PM

I can't even imagine she would think her quilting isn't just awesome.
Tell her we said so. I'm no expert at any of it, but I know pretty when I see it. You should give us a tute on hand quilting if DD learned to do that from you, mom!

Moonpi 08-14-2009 03:41 PM

What's not to love? Good job!

mimee4 08-15-2009 06:00 AM

She did absolutely wonderful. Great job of teaching, Mom.

mpspeedy 08-15-2009 07:57 AM

Oh, I think she is reading these. She isn't a member (yet) but she can read the posts and I send her links to interesting threads.

I can't really do a tute without violating the copyright stuff, since I use the thimblelady's method exclusively, right down to her hoop, thimble, and needles. I think they are the best.

Even her quilting thread is good, YLI (made in the good ol' USA!). I just can't say enough good things about the package I got from Liuxin.

JoanneS 08-16-2009 07:11 PM

Woo Hoo  Another quilter in the family  She's better at hand quilting than I am. I've tried Thimblelady's method, and I like it - but my thumbs say no to hand quilting! It's great that she learned it to start with.

kluedesigns 08-16-2009 07:13 PM

wow, it looks great

earthwalker 08-16-2009 07:51 PM
