Here is my version of the extension table that was shown on u-tube made of insulation board. Then I took an idea from someone's table they made out of wood and incorporated the contact paper onto this "table"

This looks like a really easy to make and "cost effective" way to make an extension table..thanks for the idea :D :D

Also, I see you have your machine on a little padding!! Does it help with the vibration? I have mine on one of the white plastic banquet type tables from Sam's and if you really get going, it seems to get the whole table moving!!!

What a great table!

Actually the "ironing pad" is to cover the hole that the original machine would have sat in so can use cabinet for this machine. My machine will not fit down in there and did not want to cut on an antique cabinet to make it fit. It does also help with any vibration. When I use machines at my Mom's house on her dining table, I put a swatch of the rubbery cabinet material (that stuff you put in cabinets to put dishes on) underneath the machines and that helps keep them in place.

The whole project probably took a couple of hours.

Great idea!!! I did one like the you tube video, but here in the sticks they didn't have insulation board, only styrofoam... talk about messy!.. I need to go and get some of the insulation board and think that might work better.
I've also thought about cutting a hole in my old dining room table (which is what my 4000D sits on now along with my serger and have it recessed down, but I can't figure out what to put under it to hold my machine at the table level. It has to be strong enough cause that machine is heavy!

did you stick the contact paper right onto your sewing machine bed?

No, I took the pieces of insulation board, made the template, glued the boards together and then wrapped entire thing in contact paper, then wrapped the clear vinyl around to bottom and taped it to bottom of extension.

so you have contact paper and vinyl on top of the foam?

Yes... started on bottom side, stuck the contact paper to bottom and wrapped about inch around on top. Then stuck contact paper on top and wrapped to the bottom. Put the clear vinyl on top and wrapped to bottom and just used some clear packing tape and taped it to the bottom. Would have just made do with the contact, but wanted to have a "smooth" transitional surface from extension to machine and back to extension, so used the vinyl.

i made the same thing about 3 weeks ago. i didn't bother with the contact paper i just have vinyl.

i also didn't tape it around and under the foam insulation. i like it to hang down over the table because my quilts tend to hang off and this way they can still slide smoothly.
