Old man- New quilter 03-18-2010 04:17 PM

Thanks all, ... it really is my first attempt --- found out that I really LIKE PP. Not bad for an old man that started quilting about 10 months ago, huh??

I love it! I love the colors against the black background. I printed off a few patterns to try and your beautiful block is an inspiration.

As I see it, it is what you make it. I always ( always -- I say that like I'm an old time quilter. ) anyway, I wanted to learn PP and this block required it. I had someone give me about a 10 minute demo and I just decided that I could do it. The 'hardest' part is understanding how it operates. Once you 'get it' you've got it. Personally, I enjoy it.

Just beautiful! I am planning a trip to Maine this fall with 2 of my quilting friends and the vacation quilt I am planning is a Mariner's Compass in the center surrounded by storm at sea blocks. I hope I can do as well with the Mariner's compass!!! What a great job and a beautiful block! What are you going to do with it? Wall hanging? Center of a quilt? How big is it?

OR Piecemaker 03-18-2010 09:44 PM

I'm impressed! I really like paper piecing. Enjoy!

It is a quilt center on a BOM. Without the black boarder pieces ( that I haven't sewn on yet, it measures 18" square.

Not really. Just about 10 minutes that someone showed me the basics. I found some helpful information on this site that will make the next one easier. Guess you could say I just winged it.

Old man- New quilter 03-19-2010 07:21 AM
